Salary: £33,673

Hours: 37 per week

Overview

West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) is the second largest fire and rescue service in England, serving an area of 902km square and a population of some three million people. ‘Our Strategy’ drives the people, professionalism and pride with which we serve our communities.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our People Department as a Volunteering Advisor.

This is a key role supporting the delivery, development and administration of volunteering across WMFS. Working closely with the Volunteering Manager, you will help create a positive, safe, inclusive and rewarding experience for volunteers throughout their volunteering journey, from recruitment and onboarding through to engagement, recognition and exit.

The role will support volunteering programmes across the service, working with volunteers, colleagues and external partners to strengthen community engagement, promote volunteering opportunities and ensure volunteering activities are delivered in line with organisational objectives, safeguarding requirements and best practice.

Responsibilities

- support volunteer recruitment, onboarding, induction, deployment and exit processes
- maintain accurate volunteer records, databases and monitoring information
- provide day-to-day support and guidance to volunteers, responding to enquiries and promoting engagement and inclusion
- support volunteer wellbeing, recognition, training and development initiatives.

Experience and skills

Essential

- supporting people, activities or projects
- administration or customer-facing processes
- able to effectively support and engage people from diverse backgrounds
- good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications and database or record-management systems.

Benefits

We offer a friendly working environment and benefits including:

- enhanced family leave benefits, including 52 weeks fully paid maternity and adoption leave
- flexible and agile working arrangements
- free, on-site gym facilities
- free, on-site parking.

We also offer access to an in-house occupational health facility - including occupational health and fitness advisors, sports therapists, physiotherapists, cognitive behavioural therapy practitioners and counsellors.

In addition, employees have access to:

- 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme
- wellbeing programmes
- ‘blue light’ discounts across many retailers through partner schemes
- Sports and Welfare scheme (for a small fee) – with access to discounted products and services.

Diversity

We welcome applications from all eligible candidates. However, as women and Black and minority ethnic employees are currently under-represented in our service, we particularly encourage applications from these groups.

WMFS is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults. We expect the same of every staff member.

Successful candidates will be subject to necessary pre-employment checks, including - where applicable - relevant level Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, qualifications, medical clearance, identity and right to work. All applicants will be required to provide two suitable references.

How to apply

To express your interest in this opportunity please submit your curriculum vitae alongside a personal statement, outlining your skills and experience in relation to the job summary.
