About this role
Job Requirements
Site survey and pre-installation
• Carry out detailed site surveys of industrial sheds: roof area, orientation, tilt, shading, obstructions, roof condition and structural suitability.
• Check tin-shed sheet type, thickness, purlin spacing and fixing methods, and select the right mounting clamps and structure for each roof.
• Prepare survey reports with photos, measurements and a roof layout for the design team.
• Identify cable routes, inverter and ACDB/DCDB locations, earthing points and the grid connection point.
Design checks and calculations
• Calculate DC cable losses and select cable sizes so string voltage drop stays within the project's design limit.
• Verify string sizing, module-to-inverter configuration and AC cable sizing against approved drawings.
• Flag design-versus-site mismatches early and propose practical fixes.
Installation supervision
• Supervise mounting structure erection, module installation, DC and AC cabling, inverter installation, earthing and lightning protection on rooftops.
• Ensure work follows approved drawings, quality standards and the project schedule.
• Check roof-penetration points, sealing and waterproofing so installation does not cause leakage in the shed.
Contractor and manpower management
• Plan daily work, allot tasks and monitor output of installation contractors and their crews.
• Verify contractor measurements and work done before bills are certified.
• Control material receipt, storage, usage and wastage at site.
Safety and quality
• Enforce working-at-height rules, PPE use, fall protection and safe handling of live electrical work.
• Run toolbox talks and report incidents and near misses.
• Inspect workmanship at each stage and close punch-list items.
Testing, commissioning and handover
• Carry out pre-commissioning checks: insulation resistance, polarity, open-circuit voltage and earth resistance.
• Support commissioning with the inverter, DISCOM and net-metering teams.
• Prepare as-built drawings, test reports and handover documents.
Client communication and reporting
• Coordinate with the client's plant, maintenance and safety teams for shed access, shutdowns and permits.
• Send daily and weekly progress reports with photos to the Project Manager.
• Raise material, manpower or access issues before they delay the schedule.
Required skills and qualifications
Education: Diploma or B.E./B.Tech in Electrical, Electronics or Mechanical Engineering (Electrical preferred).
Experience: 3–4 years of hands-on site work in rooftop solar PV installation.
Must-have skills
1. Trained in solar rooftop installation on industrial sheds.
2. Trained in electrical installation of rooftop solar PV plants: DC and AC cabling, string connections, inverters, earthing and protection.
3. Strong communication with clients, contractors, vendors and the internal team, in writing and in person.
4. Site contractor management: planning, supervising, measuring and certifying work done by installation crews.
5. Site survey: roof measurement, shading study, structural and electrical feasibility, with clear survey reports.
6. Working knowledge of tin shed (metal sheet) roofs: sheet profiles, purlins, clamps and fixings, roof load limits and leak-proofing.
7. Ability to use a DC cable loss calculator to size cables and check voltage drop.
8. Working-at-height safety awareness and the ability to enforce it on site.

Good to have
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and PVsyst or similar design software.
• Experience with net-metering and DISCOM commissioning procedures.
• Familiarity with testing tools: multimeter, insulation tester, earth tester and I-V curve tracer.
• Basic MS Excel and reporting skills for daily progress and material tracking.
• Solar PV installer training or certification (such as a Suryamitra or similar skill course).
• Working knowledge of Hindi and the local language of the project region.
• Valid two-wheeler licence and willingness to travel to sites.
Working conditions and safety
The role is mostly on site, on open rooftops of industrial sheds, in heat, sun and dust. Frequent travel between project sites is expected, and some stays away from base may be needed. The engineer must be physically fit to climb and work at height, and must use helmet, safety harness, safety shoes and gloves at all times on the roof. Work near live electrical equipment follows lockout and permit procedures set by the client plant.
