About this role

Standard Job Description

We are seeking a senior strategist who can connect government direction and customer needs to Lockheed Martin Space’s enterprise choices. This person will assess national security priorities, defense and civil space strategies, budgets, policy, and emerging mission needs, then explain their implications for markets, capabilities, investments, and partnerships.

The role sits within Enterprise Strategy and works closely with the Intelligence on team, Strategic Planning, Product Strategy, business areas, and customer-facing teams. The successful candidate will bring credible government and customer perspective, strong analytical judgment, and the ability to move from external signals to a clear recommendation for senior leaders.

What you will do

● Monitor and assess U.S. government and relevant allied strategies, budget priorities, acquisition direction, policy developments, and mission needs affecting the space and national security markets.

● Translate those signals into specific implications for Lockheed Martin Space: where to compete, which capabilities to build or partner for, what assumptions to test, and where leadership attention is needed.

● Develop integrated assessments of customer priorities, funding paths, timelines, and constraints; distinguish stated intent from funded or executable demand.

● Work with business areas, government affairs, business development, product teams, and technical leaders to test hypotheses and connect enterprise strategy with customer reality.

● Identify capability gaps and emerging opportunities across products, technology, workforce, facilities, partnerships, and customer relationships.

● Produce concise executive briefings, strategy papers, and recommendations that state the evidence, uncertainty, implications, and proposed next steps.

● Contribute government and customer insight to enterprise reviews, strategic planning, market studies, and major growth decisions.

● Build and maintain a network of informed internal and external relationships, in coordination with established customer engagement and government affairs channels.

Basic Qualifications

● Bachelor's Degree

● 8+ years of experience in government, defense, aerospace, national security, or a related sector, with a strong understanding of how customer priorities become programs and funded requirements.

● Ability to analyze strategy and budget material, synthesize disparate evidence, and draw practical business implications.

● Experience advising senior leaders or shaping strategy across organizational boundaries.

● Excellent written and verbal communication, including the ability to make complex issues clear and present a defensible point of view.

● Strong judgment, intellectual curiosity, and an ability to work effectively with government-facing and business teams.

● US Citizen with the ability to obtain TS/SCI

Desired Skills

● Experience with the Department of Defense, Department of the Air Force, U.S. Space Force, intelligence community, civil space agencies, or relevant allied institutions.

● Familiarity with space architectures, future force design, acquisition and budget processes, or defense industrial policy.

● Experience in a government strategy, policy, FFRDC, think tank, or industry strategy role that required connecting mission needs to investments and capabilities.
