Job Summary
We are looking for a skilled and self-motivated Engineering Technician to support our hardware and firmware development teams across all core consumer electronics products. This is a hands-on, in-lab role focused on executing the technical build, rework, and test support work that keeps our development programs moving. You will be the go-to resource for PCBA rework, prototype builds, fixture fabrication, and test fleet maintenance — freeing our engineers to stay focused on design and development. If you love working with your hands, thrive in a fast-paced product development environment, and take pride in doing precise, quality work, this role is for you.
Job Responsibilities
PCBA Rework & Assembly
• Perform precision soldering and rework on PCBAs, including component removal and replacement (SMD and through-hole), fly wire additions, and pad repair.
• Lift and replace fine-pitch surface mount components (QFN, BGA, LGA, and similar packages) using hot air rework stations and reflow tools.
• Interpret schematics, assembly drawings, and rework instructions to execute modifications accurately and repeatably.
• Inspect completed rework using microscopes and visual inspection tools; document work performed and outcomes.
Prototype & Unit Builds
• Assemble and rework prototype units across EVT, DVT, and PVT build phases per engineering instructions.
• Support bring-up activities by preparing boards and units to engineering specifications in advance of testing.
• Maintain accurate records of unit configurations, modifications, and build history.
Test Fixture & Jig Fabrication
• Design, build, and maintain test fixtures, jigs, and mechanical assemblies used by the engineering team for hardware validation and characterization.• Utilize 3D printing (FDM and/or resin) to fabricate custom fixture components, enclosures, and mechanical aids — from design through print to finished part.
• Apply CAD tools (preferred) to design fixture geometry and iterate on designs based on engineer feedback.
• Identify opportunities to improve fixture reliability, repeatability, and ease of use.
Lab Equipment & Test Fleet Management
• Operate and maintain standard lab equipment including oscilloscopes, multimeters, bench power supplies, soldering stations, and hot air rework tools.
• Maintain the engineering test fleet — tracking unit inventory, configurations, and condition; performing rework or repairs to keep units test-ready.
• Flag equipment issues, calibration needs, or lab supply shortages proactively to keep the lab running smoothly.
• Organize and maintain a clean, well-stocked, and efficient lab environment.
Engineering Team Support
• Partner closely with hardware, firmware, and mechanical engineers to execute hands-on tasks that would otherwise pull engineers away from core design work.
• Take direction from multiple engineers simultaneously, prioritizing tasks effectively to meet program needs.
• Communicate clearly on task status, blockers, and completed work — keeping engineers informed without requiring micromanagement.
Job Requirements
• 3+ years of hands-on experience in an electronics lab, engineering support, or manufacturing environment.
• Proficient solderer with demonstrated experience reworking SMD components — including fine-pitch and leadless packages — using hot air and iron-based rework tools.
• Experience lifting components and performing fly wire modifications on PCBAs.• Hands-on experience with 3D printing, including operating FDM printers, preparing print files, and post-processing parts.
• Comfortable operating standard lab equipment: oscilloscopes, multimeters, bench power supplies, logic analyzers.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, PCB layout files, and assembly/rework documentation.
• Detail-oriented with a strong sense of workmanship and quality.
• Organized, self-directed, and able to manage multiple concurrent tasks across a busy engineering team.
Essential Job Function
• Experience with CAD tools (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar) for fixture and enclosure design.
• Familiarity with resin 3D printing for high-detail fixture components.
• Exposure to consumer electronics product development cycles (EVT/DVT/PVT).
• Experience maintaining a lab test fleet or prototype unit inventory.
• Basic scripting or test automation experience (Python or similar) is a plus but not required.
