Senior GCP Platform Engineer
GCP Platform Owner – Landing Zone & Applications | Infrastructure & Operations
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior GCP Platform Engineer to own our Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environment, reporting into the Infrastructure & Operations organization. This individual will act as the platform owner for GCP end-to-end: administering, securing, automating, and evolving the platform as a product that other engineering and product teams consume.
The role holder will lead the engineering delivery and full lifecycle management of the GCP platform which includes the infrastructure management for landing zone and JLL applications in multiple regions including AMER, EMEA and APAC. The landing zone is the reference standard used to stand up GCP for other products and other regions, making this a foundational, high-visibility role within the broader cloud strategy.
This is a hands-on, technically deep role that also requires strong stakeholder engagement — the individual will define architecture, policies, standards, and procedures for the platform, while managing requests through full-circle tracking to resolution, and partnering closely with Security, Governance Risk & Compliance (GRC), Infrastructure, AI, and Software Development teams to ensure the platform reflects best practice across all of these domains.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and administer the GCP platform: Perform core, day-to-day administration of the enabled GCP platform (projects, folders, organization policies, IAM, networking, quotas, service enablement) ensuring a stable, well-governed, and consistently configured environment across the global estate.
- Manage the platform as a product: Act as the product owner for the GCP platform — define the roadmap, prioritize enhancements, gather requirements from consuming teams, and continuously improve the platform's capabilities, reliability, and developer experience.
- Deliver full automation through Infrastructure as Code: Manage the global platform exclusively through IaC (e.g., Terraform), building and maintaining reusable modules, pipelines, and self-service patterns so that provisioning, configuration, and change management are fully automated, version-controlled, and repeatable.
- Embed security, governance, risk and compliance: Own the security posture of the platform in partnership with Security and GRC teams — including identity and access management, network security, data protection, logging/audit, and continuous compliance monitoring — ensuring the platform meets internal policy and relevant regulatory requirements (including in-region requirements).
- Apply infrastructure, AI, and software development best practices: Ensure the platform's design and operating model reflect current best practices across infrastructure engineering, AI/ML enablement, and modern software development (CI/CD, GitOps, testing, observability), so the platform is a strong foundation for both traditional and AI-driven workloads.
- Execute architecture, policies, standards and procedures: Help shape and document the target architecture, guardrails, policies, and operating procedures for the GCP platform, ensuring consistency, scalability, and alignment with enterprise architecture and cloud strategy.
- Deliver and manage the GCP platform in regions for Applications: Take end-to-end ownership of delivering and fully managing the GCP platform supporting JLL applications products in regions, from initial build-out through steady-state operations.
- Complete the global landing zone IAC as the platform standard: Lead completion of the landing zone, codifying it as the reusable, standardized blueprint used to stand up GCP for other products and other regions — including documentation, automation, and knowledge transfer so it can be replicated confidently by other teams.
- Maintain deep technical domain knowledge: Build and maintain expert-level knowledge of the GCP platform's technical domain — services in use, architecture decisions, dependencies, and constraints — acting as the go-to subject matter expert for the platform.
- Drive stakeholder management and engagement: Build strong working relationships with product teams, application owners, Security, GRC, enterprise architecture, and regional stakeholders, communicating platform capabilities, constraints, and roadmap clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Own full-circle request tracking to resolution: Manage the intake, prioritization, and resolution of platform requests end-to-end — ensuring nothing falls through the cracks, requests are tracked transparently, and stakeholders receive timely updates through to closure.
Success in the First 90 Days
By the end of the first 90 days, the successful candidate will have:
- Completed onboarding and built working knowledge of the current GCP platform architecture, tooling, IaC codebase, and existing landing zone build status.
- Established relationships with key stakeholders across JLL Applications, Security, GRC, enterprise architecture, and regional teams, and set up a working intake and tracking process for platform requests.
- Completed a gap assessment of the platform against security, governance, and automation best practices, and produced a prioritized remediation and improvement plan.
- Taken over day-to-day administration of the enabled platform with no disruption to existing services, including ownership of at least one full IaC-driven change to production configuration.
- Documented the current state of the landing zone, identified the remaining work required to complete it, and agreed a delivery plan and timeline with stakeholders.
Success in the First Year
By the end of the first year, the successful candidate will have:
- Delivered and fully operationalized the GCP platform for applications, with the platform running reliably in production and supported by clear operational procedures.
- Completed the landing zone and published it as the standardized, documented blueprint for provisioning GCP — validated by at least one additional product or region successfully adopting it.
- Achieved full management of the global platform through Infrastructure as Code, with manual/click-ops changes eliminated and automation covering the large majority of routine provisioning and configuration tasks.
- Established and embedded architecture, policies, standards, and procedures for the platform, agreed with Security, GRC, and enterprise architecture, and adopted consistently across consuming teams.
- Built a mature, transparent request-tracking process with demonstrable improvement in resolution time and stakeholder satisfaction.
- Positioned the GCP platform as a trusted, well-governed product with a clear roadmap, recognized by stakeholders as a reliable foundation for current and future (including AI-driven) workloads.
Technical & Professional Requirements
- Cloud platform expertise: Extensive hands-on experience administering and engineering Google Cloud Platform at scale (organization/folder/project structure, IAM, VPC networking, GKE, Cloud Run, Compute Engine, Cloud SQL/Spanner, logging & monitoring, and related core services).
- Infrastructure as Code & automation: Strong practical experience with Terraform (or equivalent IaC tooling) and CI/CD pipelines to fully automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management.
- Security, governance, risk & compliance: Solid understanding of cloud security architecture, IAM best practices, network security, and GRC frameworks, with experience implementing controls that satisfy audit and regulatory requirements.
- Software development practices: Comfortable working with modern software development practices (Git-based workflows, code review, testing, GitOps) as applied to infrastructure and platform code.
- AI and emerging technology awareness: Working knowledge of how AI/ML workloads are supported on cloud platforms, and how platform design needs to evolve to enable AI-driven use cases.
- Stakeholder management: Proven ability to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders — technical and non-technical, local and global — and to translate business needs into platform capabilities.
- Product ownership mindset: Experience treating a platform as a product, with a roadmap, prioritization process, and focus on the experience of the teams consuming it.
- Regional experience: Experience delivering cloud infrastructure in regions (ex: China, KSA, Germany) with more nuanced regulated/regional environments is highly valued, given the requirement to complete and standardize landing zone.
Additional Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; relevant GCP certifications (e.g., Professional Cloud Architect, Professional Cloud Security Engineer) preferred.
- 5+ years of hands-on cloud infrastructure/platform engineering experience, with significant experience specifically on Google Cloud Platform.
- Demonstrated experience owning a cloud platform end-to-end, including security, automation, and stakeholder engagement responsibilities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities across security, delivery speed, and cost.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to produce clear architecture, policy, and standards documentation.
- Willingness to collaborate across time zones with global and regional stakeholders.
- Experience with AWS and Azure
