About LondonEnergy:

LondonEnergy operates the second largest waste contract in the UK, handling and processing nearly 750,000 tonnes of London’s waste every year. We have a dedicated team of people working across our various North London sites, making a positive difference to the environment and the local community.

By processing household waste at our facility, we produce enough energy from waste to power 80,000 homes every year and recycle 70% of items through our Reuse and Recycling Centres.

About the role:

LondonEnergy is undertaking one of the most significant transformations in its history as it transitions from its existing Energy from Waste facility to a new Energy Recovery Facility (ERF).

We are looking for an experienced and motivated communications and engagement professional to lead the people-focused change strategy for this major programme. Working closely with the Communications Manager, HR and programme leaders, you will help colleagues understand the reasons for change, feel involved in the transition and prepare for the future.

You will turn complex technical and operational information into clear, accessible communications, support leaders and managers to communicate confidently, and create meaningful opportunities for employees to share their views and influence the transition. This is an opportunity to play a key role in a major organisational transformation, helping ensure our people are informed, engaged and ready for change.

Responsibilities

- Change Strategy: Develop and deliver a change, communications and engagement strategy, creating a clear and compelling narrative about the ERF transition and its importance to LondonEnergy.
- Communications Planning: Plan and deliver timely, accurate and engaging communications aligned with programme milestones, workforce impacts and organisational priorities.
- Employee Engagement: Organise workshops, focus groups, roadshows, listening sessions and employee forums, ensuring colleagues have opportunities to ask questions, share feedback and contribute to the transition.
- Leadership Support: Equip leaders and managers with briefings, presentations, FAQs and communication toolkits, helping them explain changes clearly, consistently and empathetically.
- Consultation & Employee Relations: Work with HR to support employee communications and engagement relating to consultation, including constructive engagement with recognised Trade Union representatives and employee forums.
- Change Readiness: Monitor employee understanding, feedback and sentiment, identify potential barriers to change, and recommend targeted actions to improve workforce readiness.
- Stakeholder Management & Reporting: Collaborate with programme leads and the Communications Manager to align messaging, track engagement, report progress and risks, and continuously improve communications activity.

Requirements

- Relevant Experience: Significant experience leading communications, employee engagement or organisational change within a complex organisation or programme, including supporting a major transformation or transition.

- Strategic Communications: Proven experience developing and delivering change, communications and engagement strategies, with the ability to create a compelling case for change for different audiences.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, with the ability to turn complex information into clear, accessible and engaging messages.
- Engagement & Facilitation: Experience designing and facilitating workshops, briefings, listening sessions or other employee engagement activities, and using feedback to inform decisions and improvements.
- Leadership & Stakeholder Management: Experience working with senior leaders and supporting managers to communicate change effectively, with strong influencing and relationship-building skills.
- Planning & Personal Effectiveness: Strong organisational and project-management skills, sound judgement, and the ability to manage competing priorities and communicate sensitively during periods of uncertainty.
- Desirable Experience: A recognised change management, communications or engagement qualification, or equivalent professional experience, is desirable. Experience in operational, industrial, energy, utilities, infrastructure, engineering or construction environments, employee consultation, unionised workplaces or major capital programmes would also be beneficial.
