Job Title: Electrical Inspector Job Description
The Electrical Inspector will support a multi-building data center campus project by providing thorough on-site inspections of electrical and mechanical systems to ensure they are installed correctly and in full compliance with contract documents, codes, and standards. This is a field-based, quality-focused support role that involves observing construction activities, verifying installation quality, reviewing testing and labeling, and preparing detailed documentation to support a smooth transition into the commissioning phase.
Responsibilities
- Work on a four-building data center campus at different phases of construction, providing continuous inspection and quality assurance support.
- Verify that all work in place conforms to contract documents, drawings, and specifications, including electrical, mechanical, plumbing (MEP) systems, and rough-ins.
- Perform routine examinations and checks of ongoing work to ensure quality installation and execution are maintained according to contract requirements.
- Ensure required testing and final follow-up checks are conducted and that all deficiencies are corrected so contractors do not build upon or conceal non-conforming work.
- Assess general contractor means and methods for compliance with the most stringent applicable global, national, and local standards, and immediately notify the owner of any deficiencies.
- Evaluate the final installed product to confirm it meets the appropriate level of finish and is ready to proceed into the commissioning start-up phase.
- Evaluate and confirm that proper levels of protection for equipment and systems are maintained during construction.
- Provide detailed evaluation of the installation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) equipment and systems, including rough-in inspections.
- Confirm that equipment and systems are installed free of defects or damage and that required access to installed products, such as mechanical valves, access doors, and clearances, is available.
- Perform visual observations of mechanical and electrical rough-ins to ensure installations are clean, tidy, and properly supported, including conduit support and organization.
- Verify correct installation and integration of electrical systems such as switchgear, UPS, ATS, and PDU systems, ensuring they are installed properly and in accordance with project requirements.
- Conduct SCCS reviews, breaker settings reviews, and arc flash label verification to ensure safety and compliance.
- Review NETA testing results for electrical systems to confirm that testing has been performed correctly and meets project and code requirements.
- Conduct FOD (foreign object debris) inspections to maintain a safe and orderly construction environment.
- Perform turnover services, including verifying that all inspection forms are complete and accurate and that observation statuses are current.
- Prepare thorough quality documentation and inspection observations for turnover to the commissioning team.
- Conduct final quality verification walks with the owner to confirm that systems and installations meet all required standards and are ready for commissioning.
- Collaborate with construction management and commissioning teams to support a seamless transition from construction to start-up phases.
- Maintain organized records of inspections, findings, and corrective actions to support project quality control and compliance.
Essential Skills
- 510 years of experience in construction inspection, quality control, or construction management with a strong focus on electrical and mechanical systems.
- Demonstrated experience working on data center projects or similarly complex, mission-critical facilities.
- Strong focus on electrical and mechanical inspection, including MEP systems, rough-ins, and equipment installation.
- Hands-on experience with SCCS reviews, breaker settings reviews, and arc flash label verification.
- Experience reviewing NETA testing for electrical systems.
- Experience conducting FOD inspections in active construction environments.
- Proven ability to verify work against contract documents, drawings, and specifications.
- Ability to identify non-conforming work and ensure that deficiencies are corrected before subsequent work proceeds.
- Strong understanding of applicable global, national, and local codes and standards related to mechanical and electrical systems.
- Ability to prepare and maintain thorough inspection forms, observation logs, and quality documentation for turnover and commissioning.
- Knowledge of electrical systems such as switchgear, UPS, ATS, and PDU systems, including installation requirements and quality standards.
- Familiarity with the commissioning process for data center and mission-critical facilities, even though this role is not a commissioning position.
- OSHA 10 certification (minimum).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
