Job Description:

The Director for Service Infrastructure and Cybersecurity at Fluence is a pivotal technical leadership role responsible for governing our Tier 2 global infrastructure, platform operations, and information security ecosystem. Operating as the primary engineering and escalation authority for our Remote Monitoring and Diagnostic Center (RMDC / Tier 1), this position ensures the high availability, security, resilience, and scalable growth of Fluence’s enterprise cloud assets, central data platform infrastructure, and customer-facing edge environments.

In this role, you will lead high-performing technical practices spanning AWS cloud administration, Zero Trust cybersecurity, network and remote connectivity, platform firmware and operating systems, and automated deployment pipelines. You will collaborate closely with Field Service Engineers (FSEs), product engineering, and security compliance teams to drive continuous service improvement, uphold strict operational SLAs, and safeguard the mission-critical digital systems powering Fluence energy storage operations worldwide.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Infrastructure & Platform Operations (Tier 2 Lead)

- Oversee global AWS resource administration, including EC2 OS lifecycle updates, EBS snapshots, AMI management, S3 lifecycle policies, resource cleanup, and capacity/quota monitoring.

- Direct network architecture and operations, including global firewalls, Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA), VPC routing, and secure VPN connectivity to customer sites and jump hosts.

- Administer Central Data Acquisition Systems (DAS - OS6 & OS7) and database infrastructures, driving MySQL/NoSQL automation, database performance tuning, shard rollover, patching, and data purge policies.

- Oversee platform lifecycle management across Linux OS, F.OS, firmware, controllers, servers, UPS devices, switches, routers, and firewalls.

Cybersecurity & Information Security Governance

- Champion identity and access management (IAM) governance across AWS and connected platforms, enforcing MFA, role-based policies, least privilege, key rotations, and periodic joiner/mover/leaver access reviews.

- Manage cybersecurity operations, including vulnerability scanning, security group and firewall rule reviews, patch compliance execution, penetration testing coordination, and secrets/vault administration.

Deployment & Service Enablement

- Lead standardized global rollouts for OS, platform, and firmware updates across cloud, Central DAS, and edge environments in coordination with Field Service Engineers.

- Manage site onboarding deployments, site decommissioning workflows, deployment runbooks, rollback protocols, and test/staging environment validation prior to production releases.

- Facilitate software automation and internal tooling initiatives, promoting Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and operational scripting to streamline recurring tasks.

Service Management & ITIL Practices

- Change Enablement: Guide change planning, maintenance window scheduling, risk reviews, rollback planning, and customer notification protocols.

- Service Configuration & Asset Management: Maintain the global CMDB/site inventory (versions, configurations, IPs, contacts) and oversee hardware EOL/EOS tracking, spare allocation, and software license tracking/reclamation.

- Service Continuity & Availability: Define availability standards and DR plans (RTO/RPO targets) for Central DAS and customer-facing platforms; lead scheduled DR failover drills and backup restore verifications.
- Capacity & Monitoring: Drive capacity forecasting for compute, storage, and licensing as sites scale; direct Tier 2 monitoring platform architecture, threshold definitions, alert routing, and alert-fatigue cleanup in support of RMDC operations.
- Problem Management & Knowledge: Function as the Tier 2 escalation lead for root-cause analysis (RCA) on RMDC-escalated problems; maintain standard runbooks, topology diagrams, vendor support contracts (AWS, Mango/Radix, OS licensing), and InfoSec audit evidence.

What will our ideal candidate bring to Fluence?

- Demonstrated Technical Leadership: Proven experience leading multi-disciplinary IT infrastructure, platform engineering, and cybersecurity teams within high-availability industrial IoT, energy, or SaaS enterprise environments.

- Deep Cloud & Network Expertise: Hands-on mastery of AWS infrastructure administration, enterprise networking (firewalls, ZTA, VPN tunnels, routing), Linux system administration, and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) automation.

- Cybersecurity & Compliance Governance: Thorough working knowledge of InfoSec practices, vulnerability management, IAM frameworks, zero-trust architectures, certificate lifecycle management, and audit readiness support.

- Strong Service Management Acumen: Demonstrated mastery of ITIL/Service Management principles-specifically Change Enablement, CMDB governance, Capacity & Continuity Planning (RTO/RPO), and Incident/Problem Management.

- Operational & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Exceptional ability to partner across operations (RMDC Tier 1), field service engineering, and vendor ecosystems while maintaining clear runbooks, change controls, and escalation pathways.

- Continuous Improvement Mindset: Track record of using operational insights, post-implementation change reviews, and monitoring data to continually drive process automation, cost optimization, and resilience enhancements.

Required Qualifications and Experience

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline required. Master's degree in a relevant field preferred.
- Minimum of 10–12 years of progressively responsible experience in IT infrastructure, cloud platform operations, cybersecurity, or related technical disciplines, including at least 5 years in technical leadership or management roles.

- Relevant industry certifications such as CISSP, CISM, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, ITIL, or equivalent credentials preferred.

- Demonstrated experience within the energy, utilities, renewable energy, battery energy storage systems (BESS), industrial automation, or other mission-critical infrastructure environments strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting industrial control systems (ICS), SCADA, industrial IoT, or interconnected IT/OT environments, including cybersecurity considerations for distributed industrial assets, strongly preferred.
- Proven experience managing enterprise-scale cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, network security, Linux-based platforms, and cybersecurity operations supporting geographically distributed, high-availability environments
- Working knowledge of industry-recognized cybersecurity and compliance frameworks, including NIST, IEC 62443, ISO 27001, and applicable critical infrastructure security requirements.
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams, managing third-party service providers, and driving ITIL-aligned service operations, incident response, disaster recovery, and continuous improvement initiatives.
