About this role

Why Join Omnicell?

Join a Verification & Validation (V&V) team where your engineering expertise will directly contribute to the safety, performance, reliability, and quality of complex medical automation systems.

As a Test Engineer III, you will take ownership of subsystem and system-level verification strategies, lead complex hands-on testing, and help solve challenging hardware and system problems. You’ll work across engineering disciplines to translate requirements and product risks into robust test methods, investigate failures, strengthen reliability, and improve how products are designed and tested.

This is an opportunity to combine hands-on engineering, data-driven problem solving, and cross-functional technical leadership while contributing to products where reliability and quality matter.

What You’ll Do

As a Test Engineer III, you will:

- Lead risk-based V&V strategies for assigned subsystems and major features, translating requirements and product risks into effective verification approaches and partnering with R&D, Quality, Product, Manufacturing, and Automation teams to establish appropriate coverage and audit-ready evidence.
- Develop and improve hands-on test capabilities , including test methods, fixtures, and laboratory setups for hardware and integrated systems using instrumentation, sensors, actuators, motors, pneumatics, data acquisition, and software/control interfaces.
- Lead complex system and integration testing , including performance, stress, robustness, and safety-critical verification, while supporting characterization, life-cycle, and failure-focused reliability testing where appropriate.
- Turn test data into engineering insight by applying statistical methods to identify trends, variation, degradation, failure patterns, and product risk.
- Lead structured failure investigations , applying root-cause analysis to hardware and system issues and driving corrective actions and effective retest strategies.
- Create clear, traceable V&V evidence through test plans, protocols, reports, and traceability matrices, while communicating progress, technical risks, failures, and conclusions to cross-functional stakeholders.
- Influence product and test strategy by representing V&V in design reviews and risk-management activities and advocating for stronger design-for-testability.
- Share technical expertise by mentoring Test Engineers I/II and Test Technicians and helping strengthen hands-on problem-solving capabilities across the team.
- Advance V&V processes and automation by identifying practical opportunities to expand coverage, reduce manual effort, improve data quality, and create standardized, reusable test capabilities.

Who You Are

Minimum Requirements

- 3+ years of experience in verification, validation, reliability testing, hardware/system testing, or integration of complex products.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechtronics, or anything similar.
- Strong system-level understanding of complex hardware and software-controlled products, with the ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, sensor/actuator, controls, and software interactions.
- Hands-on experience with laboratory test equipment, instrumentation, data acquisition, and designing, building, or modifying test fixtures and test setups for complex hardware.
- Demonstrated experience applying statistical methods to engineering test data and conducting structured root-cause analysis for hardware or system failures; strong technical documentation and cross-functional communication skills.
- Basic familiarity with AI-enabled tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT) to support productivity, analysis, and documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

- Hands-on mechatronics experience with motors, motor drives, pneumatics, solenoids, sensors, actuators, wiring, power supplies, embedded controls, or microcontroller-based systems.
- Experience designing test fixtures, adapters, brackets, or prototype hardware using CAD tools such as SolidWorks or comparable software, including basic GD&T and tolerance considerations.
- Experience developing or modifying test automation and data-acquisition solutions using LabVIEW, Python, Arduino/microcontrollers, PLCs, or comparable tools; familiarity with DAQ systems and instrument control.
- Experience with reliability methods such as life or accelerated testing and statistical tools or techniques such as DOE, capability analysis, regression, Weibull analysis, Minitab, or JMP. Medical-device or regulated-industry experience and familiarity with ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 60601, IEC 61010, IEC 62304, FMEA, or FTA.
- Training, certification, or demonstrated experience using generative AI tools to improve efficiency and outcomes.

Your First 90 Days

In your first 90 days, you will:

- Build a strong understanding of assigned products, system architecture, requirements, failure modes, and the V&V/test environment, with particular focus on hardware, reliability risks, and mechatronic subsystems.
- Establish working relationships with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Product, and Automation partners and understand how design, risk, and verification decisions are made.
- Contribute to an active verification or reliability test effort through hands-on testing, statistical analysis of results, and structured root-cause investigation of at least one complex issue.
- Begin owning a defined subsystem or test capability and identify a practical improvement to fixture design, instrumentation, data collection, automation, or reliability coverage.

Work Environment

- Primarily office and laboratory-based in Warrendale, PA , with regular hands-on work using test equipment, instrumentation, hardware assemblies, fixtures, software tools, and medical automation systems.
- Limited travel may be required for cross-site collaboration or field support.
