About this role
As a Reliability Engineer, you will play a key role in creating new consumer electronic products that meet a high bar for reliability and performance. You will work closely with the product management and design engineering teams to define standards, specify tests, and then supervise test execution and failure analysis. A broad engineering background and command of statistical methods will help to inform design of new products. Your strong communication skills will be key to ensuring adoption of your technical recommendations.
Google's mission is to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful. Our Devices & Services team combines the best of Google AI, Software, and Hardware to create radically helpful experiences for users. We research, design, and develop new technologies and hardware to make our user's interaction with computing faster, seamless, and more powerful. Whether finding new ways to capture and sense the world around us, advancing form factors, or improving interaction methods, the Devices & Services team is making people's lives better through technology.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or equivalent practical experience.
- 6 years of experience with reliability, quality engineering or a related field.
- Industry experience working with contract manufacturing partners.
- Experience with consumer electronics design and processes.
- Ability to communicate in English fluently as this is a role that requires interactions with global teams.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- Experience in applying design for reliability techniques such as Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and DFMEA and reliability modeling techniques such as Reliability Block Diagram, Weibull, ALT.
- Experience in collaboration with cross-functional teams on assessing risks and identifying corrective actions for failures captured in reliability testing.
- Experience with Python, MATLAB or other programming languages for data analysis and hardware tests.
- Experience with failure analysis techniques for electrical, mechanical or optical components.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
- Lead Design for Reliability (DfR) for NPI hardware projects, driving rigorous Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEAs), physics-based modeling, and continuous risk scorecards to quantify and prevent P0/P1 issues early.
- Achieve Annual Return Rate (ARR) targets by executing advanced test suites and tracking field correlation to accurately predict shipping reliability metrics.
- Drive end-to-end failure analysis (FA) and corrective action validation (FACA) for complex system and component issues, leveraging AI and advanced tools to accelerate root cause resolution.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners and suppliers to validate design changes, establish standardized test fixtures, and mentor junior engineers.
