About this role

Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq ARWR) is a commercial stage biopharmaceutical company that develops medicines that treat intractable diseases by silencing the genes that cause them. Using a broad portfolio of RNA chemistries and efficient modes of delivery, Arrowhead therapies trigger the RNA interference mechanism to induce rapid, deep, and durable knockdown of target genes. RNA interference, or RNAi, is a mechanism present in living cells that inhibits the expression of a specific gene, thereby affecting the production of a specific protein. Arrowhead’s RNAi-based therapeutics leverage this natural pathway of gene silencing.

Arrowhead is focused on developing innovative drugs for diseases with a genetic basis, typically characterized by the overproduction of one or more proteins that are involved with disease. The depth and versatility of our RNAi technologies enables us to potentially address conditions in virtually any therapeutic area and pursue disease targets that are not otherwise addressable by small molecules and biologics. Arrowhead is leading the field in bringing the promise of RNAi to address diseases outside of the liver, and our clinical pipeline includes disease targets in the liver and lung with a promising pipeline of preclinical candidates.

Arrowhead’s corporate headquarters is in Pasadena, CA with research and development teams in Madison, WI & San Diego, CA, and a state of the art manufacturing facility in Verona, WI. Our employees are nimble, science-driven innovators who are collaborating to bring new therapies to patients in need.

The Position

The Health Outcomes Liaison (HOL) is a field-based scientific and clinical expert responsible for engaging regional and local payers and healthcare decision makers to communicate the clinical and economic value of Arrowhead’s cardiometabolic RNAi portfolio. The HOL will serve as a trusted scientific partner for managed care organizations, integrated delivery networks, pharmacy benefit managers, and other healthcare decision-makers by facilitating compliant, non-promotional scientific exchange related to clinical evidence, real-world evidence (RWE), health economics and outcomes research (HEOR), and value-based care. This role executes field-level engagement that supports the broader national payer strategy and reports to the Medical Affairs Payer Director (west coast player coach).

This is a highly mobile, customer-facing role that requires more than 60% travel across the assigned geography, including weeknights and weekends as business needs require. The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment, operate with a high degree of agility and autonomy, and be comfortable working in a fast-paced biotechnology environment as organizational priorities shift and the portfolio advances.

Evidence & Insight Gathering

- Gather and communicate field-level payer insights regarding formulary considerations, evidence gaps, utilization management, prior authorization requirements, reimbursement barriers, and evolving healthcare policy, feeding these insights up to the Medical Affairs Payer Director to inform national strategy and evidence generation planning.

- Maintain a strong working understanding of payer evidence needs, reimbursement challenges, and population health priorities within cardiometabolic disease.

- Serve as a field-based scientific resource regarding clinical outcomes, comparative effectiveness, RWE, HEOR, and value evidence for Arrowhead’s cardiometabolic RNAi portfolio.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

- Collaborate with field-based medical colleagues, appropriate market access colleagues, and the broader organization to provide scientific expertise and share field insights in support of internal and external activities.

- Develop execution of payer engagement plans and materials developed in partnership with Medical Value Evidence and Outcomes and Market Access, ensuring consistent scientific messaging in the field.
