About this role
Job Title: Electronics Technician Job Description
The Electronics Technician role focuses on diagnosing and resolving electronic failures in precision test and measurement equipment. You apply a strong foundation in electronics theory and practical troubleshooting skills to work down to the component level, using structured logic rather than trial-and-error. You use schematics, diagnostic tools, and test equipment to identify root causes, perform repairs, and verify that products meet performance specifications while supporting both production and engineering teams.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose electronic failures on complex precision test and measurement products, focusing on root-cause analysis rather than simple symptom treatment.
- Interpret and analyze schematics, block diagrams, and wiring diagrams to understand circuit functionality and isolate faults accurately.
- Troubleshoot down to the component level using structured logic, systematic approaches, and pattern recognition to identify why a circuit or assembly failed.
- Utilize historical failure data, internal diagnostic tools, and test results to guide troubleshooting and repair decisions.
- Apply electrical engineering principles and electronics fundamentals to identify likely failure points in analog and digital circuits.
- Operate electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, digital multimeters, logic analyzers, and power supplies to validate repairs.
- Execute functional and performance tests after troubleshooting to verify pass/fail outcomes and confirm compliance with product specifications.
- Support production floor and engineering teams with technical evaluations, failure analysis, and resolution of product issues.
- Perform debugging and calibration tasks on electronic assemblies and circuit boards as part of the repair and verification process.
- Communicate technical findings clearly, explaining symptoms, root causes, and resolutions in a logical sequence.
- Participate in an electronics technical evaluation that assesses component identification, schematic interpretation, and basic circuit troubleshooting.
- Use logical fault isolation techniques to determine what to check first in a failing circuit and identify likely failure points.
- Identify electronic components in schematics and explain their role and interaction within the circuit.
- Contribute to ongoing projects and new work by providing reliable, high-quality troubleshooting and test support.
Essential Skills
- Strong understanding of analog and digital circuits, including passive and active components.
- Ability to read, interpret, and explain schematics, block diagrams, and wiring diagrams, and understand how circuit parts interact.
- Demonstrated proficiency in troubleshooting down to the component level, finding the solution and fixing the problem rather than replacing assemblies blindly.
- Familiarity with common failure modes in electronic assemblies and the ability to use pattern recognition to explain why something failed.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic instruments such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, signal generators, and power supplies.
- Solid electronics fundamentals and ability to understand circuit operation in practical, applied scenarios.
- Logical fault isolation skills, including the ability to identify likely failure points and determine what to check first in a failing circuit.
- Clear technical communication skills, with the ability to relate symptoms to causes and resolutions in a structured manner.
- Experience with electronics testing, debugging, calibration, and working on circuit boards.
- Bachelors degree in Electronics, or an Associates degree in Electronics, or a military electronics background.
- Ability and willingness to complete an electronics test or technical evaluation focused on component identification, schematic interpretation, and circuit troubleshooting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience as a field service technician with strong electronics troubleshooting skills is highly relevant.
- background as a device or equipment technician working on electronic systems is beneficial.
- Comfort supporting production environments and collaborating with engineering teams on failure analysis and technical evaluations.
- Ability to work effectively in applied electronics scenarios where practical reasoning is more important than memorization.
- Capability to explain circuit behavior and failure mechanisms to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Interest in long-term opportunities, with an initial contract period and potential for conversion based on performance and project needs.
- Access to paid time off, paid holidays, and sick leave, contributing to a balanced work-life arrangement.
Work Environment
The role is based in a manufacturing environment that is clean, organized, and focused on precision test and measurement equipment. You work with a range of electronic test technologies and diagnostic tools, including oscilloscopes, signal generators, digital multimeters, logic analyzers, power supplies, and internal diagnostic systems. The environment emphasizes applied electronics, careful troubleshooting, and adherence to product specifications. You support production floor operations and engineering activities in a professional setting that values technical rigor, clear communication, and ongoing project work. Standard technical attire appropriate for a clean manufacturing and electronics lab environment is expected.
