About this role
About Perlego
Perlego is on a mission to make education accessible to everyone. Dubbed "The Spotify for Textbooks," we give learners worldwide unlimited access to over 1.5 million ebooks and educational resources from 9,000+ leading publishers, and we partner with hundreds of universities, businesses, and training providers to put a library in every learner's pocket. More recently we've expanded beyond the textbook into leisure reading, bringing best-selling fiction, non-fiction, professional and general-interest books onto the same subscription, so the person who came to us for their course reading now has somewhere to go when the term ends. Students, professionals and curious readers in over 100 countries read on Perlego every day, across web, iOS and Android, and the experience they have once they're inside the product is what this role is about.
The role
The New User Experience (NUX) squad is responsible for generating and capturing new demand for Perlego. NUX owns the journey from someone’s first search through to becoming a subscriber: the organic search presence and landing pages that bring people in, the book pages, signup, onboarding and checkout that turn a visit into a subscription, and the emails that bring back people who left before deciding. NUX makes sure Perlego keeps a steady flow of new subscribers across both its student and trade audiences, and it improves conversion through a continuous programme of experiments.
As the Senior Product Manager in NUX, you’ll own conversion rate optimisation across our D2C growth funnels. You’ll decide where to test, design and run the experiments, and be accountable for the conversion gains they deliver. Alongside that, you’ll be working on bets such as landing pages built around publisher reading lists, personalised book recommendations in email, book pages designed for trade readers rather than students, and work closely with our SEO Lead on SEO program that makes a 1.5-million-book catalogue findable.
Requirements
Who you are
- A strong, hands-on Product Manager with 4+ years owning product end to end, from discovery through experimentation to shipping. You have owned a KPI, not just a delivery plan, and you can say how much you moved it.
- A track record of improving conversion on high-volume growth funnels for D2C subscription products. You can point to specific experiments that moved signup or subscription rates and explain why they worked.
- A confident experimenter. You move from hypothesis to evidence quickly. You know how to size a test, choose guardrail metrics, spot a result that is noise, and recognise when a change should ship without a test at all.
- Genuinely quantitative. There is no dedicated analyst attached to the squad, so you are comfortable in the data yourself. You can interrogate cohort data and know your funnel metrics well enough to explain and defend your decisions.
- Although you will not own monetisation, you will work closely with a monetisation PM. You need to be commercially minded. You understand how pricing, plan structure and the way plans are presented at checkout affect both conversion and revenue per subscriber.
- Comfortable building with AI. You can work with engineers on AI workflows that do things that aren’t feasible by hand, such as generating landing pages at scale, and you can judge the quality and risks of what they produce.
- A peer to other PMs and to leadership, driving outcomes through cross-functional teams you do not manage.
This is not a role where someone else sets the hypothesis. You will be expected to arrive with a view on where the next percentage point comes from.
What you will own:
- The squad’s KPIs and the case for how to move them.
- The conversion rate optimisation programme across our D2C funnels. You decide where to test, keep a prioritised backlog of experiments, run them to a sound standard, and make sure every result leads to a decision.
- Generating and analysing insight, identifying the hypotheses worth validating, holding technical needs, user needs and business impact together
- The success of bets in the New User Experience squad, with accountability for the outcome
- Feeding the squad’s prioritised view and rationale into the domain roadmap
- Leading scope definition and slicing solutions to release value on a short cadence, independently
How we work:
Perlego is organised into cross-functional squads, each grouped under a layer of the business and each accountable for a small set of KPIs. Squads are made up of Product, Engineering, Design, QA and Data, and they own their problem space rather than a feature list.
We work in bets. A bet is a clearly stated hypothesis about how to move a squad KPI, with the evidence behind it, the scope, and what has deliberately been left out. Bets are proposed by the squad, reviewed in a company-wide roadmap cycle, and then delivered by the squad that proposed them. Most bets are sized to ship and read within a quarter. Occasionally we commit to a bold bet, a larger piece of work that cuts across squads and gets its own team for a period.
We're a hybrid team based in London, and squads set their own rhythm within that.
