Are you a qualified teacher looking for a role that offers variety, flexibility and the opportunity to make a significant impact across a thriving secondary school?
Copleston High School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and adaptable Cover Teacher to join our dedicated team. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified teacher to support high-quality teaching and learning across the school, ensuring continuity of education during periods of teacher absence whilst working closely with colleagues and members of the Senior Leadership Team.
About the role
The majority of cover provision at Copleston High School operates through a centralised model, with students undertaking independent learning within larger supervised study environments rather than being dispersed across multiple classrooms. Cover Teachers work collaboratively with Senior Leaders and teaching colleagues to support students, maintain high expectations and ensure a purposeful learning environment.
Alongside supervising independent learning, the successful candidate will provide classroom-based cover when required, delivering pre-planned lessons, supporting student progress and promoting positive behaviour across the school.
We are looking for someone who:
- holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
- is an effective classroom practitioner with high expectations of student achievement and behaviour
- can quickly build positive relationships with students and staff
- has excellent organisational and communication skills
- is adaptable, resilient and able to work across a range of subject areas
- demonstrates a strong commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing
- works collaboratively and contributes positively to the wider life of the school.
The successful candidate will:
- deliver high-quality classroom cover across a range of subjects
- supervise students completing work set by absent teachers
- support large-scale study sessions and independent learning environments
- promote positive behaviour and maintain high standards of conduct
- monitor student attendance, engagement and progress during cover sessions
- work alongside Senior Leaders, teaching staff and pastoral teams to support student success
- uphold the school's safeguarding, behaviour and attendance expectations.
