About this role
The Regulatory Compliance Engineer for Codes and Standards Product Compliance is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and advancing product compliance efforts for North American energy, electric vehicle (EV) charging, and computing system offerings. This role owns defining product compliance profiles against applicable codes and standards, owns compliance engineering technical documentation creation and change management processes, and will lead the development of AI-enabled tools that improve how codes and standards are applied, tracked, and communicated across the product lifecycle.
Working closely with product engineering, certification, quality, and field/application teams, this position translates requirements from bodies and standards such as NFPA, UL, CSA, IEEE, IEC, ISO, and SAE into clear product compliance strategies to enable global market access. The role also tracks North American and global codes-and-standards development, participates in relevant standards activity, and ensures installation, certification, and technical collateral remain aligned with current and emerging requirements.
- Create, maintain, and continuously improve compliance profiles for energy, charging, and computing system products, mapping features and architectures to applicable codes, standards, certification paths, and installation constraints
- Determine product applicability and gaps versus North American requirements, including NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 855, and relevant UL/CSA product safety and ESS/EVSE standards, IEEE standards, and aligned IEC/ISO/SAE norms used in product design and global platform reuse
- Support certification planning and execution with Compliance Engineering testing and certification teams including interpretation of standard clauses, construction review inputs, and resolution of nonconformances
- Track codes-and-standards development activities globally, including regionally, with a specific focus on coverage of North America
- Analyze proposed standards changes and translate impact into product, documentation, and certification actions. Ensure documentation accurately reflects product compliance with applicable codes and standards
- Participate in codes and standards development activities including task groups, technical committees, and industry associations
- Own organization, quality, and change control of compliance-engineering technical documentation including certification documents, installation manuals, white papers, technical training decks, and interpretation memos
- Create and maintain SI tools that support codes-and-standards product compliance profiles. These tools will support uniform information on how our products meet applicable codes and standards requirements, quantify risks with proposed changes to product standards, identify product standards harmonization opportunities globally, track development efforts globally that impact our products, and assist in design-for-compliance activities for new product development
- Define evaluation, guardrails, and update processes so SI outputs remain consistent with controlled documentation and do not create uncontrolled compliance guidance
- Partner with software/IT stakeholders on deployment, access control, logging, and continuous improvement of these tools
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar degree involving PV, energy storage, EV charging, or computing system focus, or equivalent experience
- 2-3 years of work experience in project engineering, code and standards development activities, and/or jurisdictional approval processes
- Understanding of electrical safety regulations such as NFPA 70, NFPA 855, ICC codes, UL 1741, UL 9540, UL 9741, UL 3141, UL 3741, UL 61730, UL 2703, and their development/application
- Technical understanding of PV, Energy Storage System, EV charging, and computing system technologies
- Advanced and concise technical writing skills geared towards clear communication
- Experience with AI-tool development, testing, and maintenance
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact with standards development groups and other industry members
- Able to organize time and tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Detailed-focused project management and analytical skills
- Able to frequently travel
