What You’ll Do
- Lead the security workstream for new data center sites and expansions from project kickoff through whitespace fitout, commissioning, operational handover, and day-2 deployment.
- Partner with Information Security and technical owners to identify applicable requirements, establish deliverables and acceptance criteria, and incorporate them into project plans.
- Work with Construction, Facilities, Engineering, Networking, and Operations to integrate security requirements into designs, installation plans, deployment sequences, and commissioning activities.
- Coordinate security-related deliverables with general contractors, subcontractors, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) trades, and equipment vendors. Clarify responsibilities and resolve dependencies that could affect build schedules.
- Track implementation of approved controls for network segmentation, administrative and remote access, infrastructure hardening, and security logging and monitoring, including facility management systems where applicable.
- Coordinate security reviews and testing at appropriate milestones. Track findings, confirm remediation evidence with technical owners, and coordinate approval of outstanding exceptions before handover.
- Maintain security milestones, dependencies, resource needs, and risk registers. Assess the impact of design or schedule changes and escalate decisions that could affect security readiness or delivery.
- Coordinate post-launch security expansions, fixes, and remediation with technical owners; manage vendor engagement and delivery, track schedules and findings, and confirm completion with Security Operations.
- Coordinate documentation, support ownership, access procedures, and security escalation paths so Operations can support the site after deployment.
- Provide concise updates on progress, blockers, outstanding findings, and decisions needed across concurrent builds.
- Develop security-readiness checklists and project processes that can be applied consistently across greenfield sites and data hall expansions.
- About the Role
The Technical Project Manager (TPM), Data Center Security, coordinates technical security requirements across the end-to-end deployment of new data center sites and data hall expansions—from project signing and kickoff through construction, whitespace fitout, commissioning, and day-2 deployment.
Embedded in the Data Center TPM team, you’ll partner with Information Security, Construction, Facilities, Infrastructure Engineering, Networking, and Operations, as well as external general contractors, subcontractors, and MEP vendors. You’ll translate approved security requirements into project deliverables and ensure they are incorporated into build schedules, validated before handover, and supported operationally.
This role is suited to a technical project manager with hands-on data center experience and an understanding of racking, stacking, power, cooling, cabling, and network architecture—and how security requirements can affect buildout. You’ll manage multiple projects with aggressive timelines, bringing clear ownership and follow-through to security dependencies, risks, and readiness.
This role focuses on infrastructure and cybersecurity delivery within the data center build program. The Physical Security team retains ownership of facility access controls, surveillance, guarding, and other physical security programs. You’ll coordinate with that team where project dependencies overlap.
Who You Are
- 5+ years of technical project management experience in data center deployment, construction, whitespace fitout, or infrastructure delivery, including experience coordinating technical security requirements or remediation.
- Understanding of data center build sequences, commissioning, operational handover, and dependencies that can affect deployment timelines.
- Working knowledge of infrastructure security concepts, including network segmentation, privileged access, secure configuration, vulnerability management, and logging and monitoring.
- Experience partnering with construction, facilities, engineering, and operations teams, as well as general contractors, subcontractors, and equipment vendors.
- Ability to translate technical requirements into clear deliverables, schedules, owners, and acceptance criteria.
- Strong risk-management and problem-solving skills, with the ability to surface issues early and drive them to resolution.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to facilitate decisions among security specialists, technical teams, contractors, and project leadership.
- Ability to manage multiple large-scale projects, prioritize competing demands, and adapt to aggressive timelines.
- Willingness to travel to data center sites as needed to meet with vendors and assess site conditions before and after deployment. Travel is expected to average 10–15%, with periods of up to 35–40% depending on project phase and site needs.
Preferred
- Experience delivering security workstreams for greenfield data centers or data hall expansions.
- Familiarity with the security of building management systems, electrical power monitoring systems, or other operational technology used in data centers.
- Experience supporting high-performance computing, GPU infrastructure, or large-scale cloud deployments.
- Experience coordinating security reviews, commissioning evidence, and operational readiness assessments.
- Relevant project management, data center, or security certifications.
