About this role

Carrier Procurement / Capacity Specialist (Northbound México)

Vortex Freight Systems (www.vortexfreight.com ) is a third party logistics (3PL) company that focuses on delivering customized supply chain solutions for organizations with operations in Canada, USA and Mexico. We are a modern, entrepreneurial organization that values people and service. As we continue to expand our operations and service offerings, we are excited to welcome a new member to our team, focused on building and developing the best team in the industry.

Job Overview:

Vortex Freight Systems is a young, dynamic, growing company and currently we are seeking an enthusiastic Carrier Procurement / Capacity Specialist (Northbound México). If you are a true team player looking for an opportunity to be a part of a company that offers you new opportunities, expansion and personal growth, please submit your application.

Responsibilities

- Source and secure capacity in Mexico for northbound operation pickups (MX-USA cross-border).

- Prospect, negotiate rates, and onboard new carriers, ensuring all documentation is complete.

- Maintain and grow your own portfolio of reliable carriers (cross-border, drayage, door-to-door).

- Track each carrier until the pickup is fulfilled and resolve rejections, delays, or equipment shortages in real-time.

- Build and maintain a carrier scorecard (measuring on-time performance, incidents, pricing, availability, and service) and use it to guide allocation decisions.

- Coordinate with the Operations team and the Routing Specialist to track loads.

- Report available capacity, risks, and weekly results to the Northbound Operations Manager.

Requirements

- Minimum 3 years of experience in capacity, carrier sales, carrier procurement, or ground transportation carrier allocation.

- Active portfolio of Mexican carriers (essential): must be able to specify how many you currently work with and how many could be onboarded within the first month.

- Experience negotiating rates and capacity, even in tight market conditions.

- Knowledge of MX-USA cross-border operations (border crossings, basic documentation, transit times).

- Knowledge of equipment types and the certifications required for pickups.

- Advanced English (daily calls and emails with US counterparts).

- Proficiency in Excel and a TMS or load tracking system.

- Availability to oversee operations until pending tasks are resolved, rather than strictly leaving at a set clock-out time.

- Ability to finish what you start: strong orientation toward measurable results.

Desirable (Nice to Have)

- Previous experience in freight brokerage or freight forwarding.

- Experience building scorecards or carrier performance reports.

- Daily follow-up with the team regarding trip assignments to carriers, including confirming the equipment, driver, and pickup schedule.

- Continuous improvement mindset – Proactively seeks better ways to operate.

- Committed – Reliable in following through with responsibilities and tasks.
