We recruit across mechanical engineering, applications engineering, manufacturing operations, maintenance, and technical sales, with a focus on practical expertise and long-term fit.
We are partnering with an established custom automation manufacturer to recruit a Precision Tool & Machine Assembler for its Waukesha, Wisconsin facility.
About the Opportunity
Build complex, custom machinery from the ground up in a hands-on role that combines precision craftsmanship, technical problem-solving, and collaboration with engineering.
You will assemble equipment that integrates mechanical systems, robotics, vision technology, and pneumatic and hydraulic components. Shop-floor workstations provide access to 3D CAD models, helping you review assemblies, verify clearances, and resolve fit and alignment questions throughout the build.
This opening is available due to an upcoming long-term employee retirement. The position offers a predictable first-shift schedule and direct collaboration with mechanical engineers, electrical wiremen, and controls professionals.
Responsibilities
- Build, fit, align, and assemble custom automated machinery, robotic cells, assembly presses, and packaging equipment.
- Interpret detailed mechanical drawings, assembly blueprints, and pneumatic and hydraulic schematics to establish build sequences.
- Use shop-floor 3D CAD models to review component placement, mechanical clearances, and complex assemblies.
- Lay out, route, and install pneumatic tubing, hydraulic lines, manifolds, valves, and related components.
- Shim, adjust, and align precision components to meet specified tolerances and achieve proper mechanical operation.
- Operate shop machinery and use precision measuring instruments to fabricate, modify, and verify components.
- Work directly with mechanical design engineers to troubleshoot assembly issues and resolve fit or tolerance concerns.
- Coordinate with electrical and controls personnel throughout machine assembly and testing.
- Disassemble, match-mark, pack, and crate completed equipment for shipment and customer installation.
Qualifications
- Five or more years of experience building mechanical machinery from the ground up, or at least two years of machine-building experience supported by a formal background in precision toolmaking, die building, or custom fixture assembly.
- Experience assembling complete custom machinery, automated production equipment, material-handling systems, or packaging machinery.
- Strong ability to interpret complex mechanical assembly drawings and fluid power schematics.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, mills, lathes, surface grinders, and related shop equipment.
- Experience using calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and other precision measuring instruments.
- Practical knowledge of mechanical alignment, component fitting, and pneumatic and hydraulic installation.
- Strong troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and ownership of build quality.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, electrical, and production colleagues.
- Ability to work onsite Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, with a daily commute of approximately 45 minutes or less to the Waukesha facility.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
Preferred Experience
- Completed apprenticeship or journeyman credentials in Tool and Die, Precision Machining, or a related trade.
- Experience mounting, aligning, and connecting proximity sensors, photoelectric sensors, and limit switches.
- Mechanical installation and alignment of robotic end-of-arm tooling.
- Experience assembling camera mounting structures and related vision-system hardware.
- Familiarity with navigating 3D CAD models in a manufacturing environment.
Compensation and Benefits
- Base pay up to $45.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
- Overtime opportunities.
- Comprehensive corporate benefits package.
- Consistent first-shift schedule.
- Modern shop environment with 3D CAD access at build stations.
- Varied custom automation projects and direct collaboration with engineering.
- Opportunity to build a long-term career with an established machinery manufacturer.
