Job Title: Chief of Staff to the Managing Partner & CEO Location: Lower Parel, Mumbai (Onsite, Full-Time)
Role Overview: Artha is seeking a Chief of Staff to work alongside the Managing Partner & CEO at the center of the firm. This is a senior role with real accountability: for the momentum of the investment lifecycle, the success of the portfolio, the progress of fundraising, and the formation of new funds and entities. The Chief of Staff sets the firm’s operating cadence and holds it, anticipating what comes next, keeping every priority in motion, and clearing the path when progress slows. Just as importantly, they ensure the Managing Partner’s time, the firm’s scarcest resource, is invested where it matters most. It is a role built on trust. The Chief of Staff is candid counsel to the Managing Partner, a steadying presence for the team when the stakes are high, and, when the moment calls for it, the firm’s voice in the room.
The role requires:
- Ownership of pace, priorities, and follow-through across the firm
- The foresight to plan two steps ahead
- Judgment on what to escalate and what to resolve
- Executive presence with founders, LPs, and partners
- Composure when the stakes are high
- An independent point of view, and the discipline to execute once a decision is taken
- Discretion beyond question
- The ambition to one day manage a fund
Core Responsibilities 1). Operating Cadence & Execution • Design and own the firm’s operating cadence: the priorities, forums, and reviews through which the firm moves • Translate strategic priorities into clear owners, milestones, and timelines • Work closely with each team to anticipate next steps and keep initiatives on schedule • Bring rigor to how the firm spends its time, so that every forum earns its place and every commitment made in it is carried through • Clear bottlenecks early, through direct follow-up and cross-team coordination
2). Investment Lifecycle • Hold accountability for the momentum of every investment, from first review through Investment Committee, documentation, closing, and post-closing compliance • Maintain a precise, real-time view of each transaction’s stage, owner, and next step • Resolve friction in diligence, legal, and approvals before it becomes delay • Ensure Investment Committee materials are rigorous, timely, and decision-ready
3). Portfolio Success • Run the portfolio review cadence and hold the firm and its founders to the commitments they make to each other • Read early signals in performance, governance, and capital needs, and bring them forward while there is still time to act • Ensure the firm’s value-creation commitments to portfolio companies are delivered • Keep follow-on, reporting, and exit workstreams on course
4). Fundraising • Drive the operating rhythm of fundraising: LP pipeline, meeting preparation, and disciplined follow-through • Ensure data rooms, LP communications, and reporting meet the standard institutional investors expect • Shape the fundraising calendar around the conversations that matter most
5). Fund & Entity Formation • Own new fund, SPV, and entity formations from initiation to completion • Orchestrate legal, tax, compliance, trustee, and regulatory counterparts against the firm’s timelines • Keep post-formation obligations and governance records in order
6). Amplifying the Managing Partner • Direct the Managing Partner’s attention to the decisions, relationships, and moments where it creates the greatest value • Build the team’s judgment on what warrants the Managing Partner’s time and what is best resolved within the firm • Ensure every engagement arrives with the context, the stakes, and a clear ask • Continuously refine how time is invested against the value it creates
7). Representation & Relationships • Represent the firm with founders, LPs, and partners, including in the Managing Partner’s absence where appropriate • Serve as a trusted counterpart to the team and to the firm’s key relationships • Know with precision which matters to resolve and which to escalate • Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality
8). Escalation & Crisis Management • Lead the firm’s first response when urgent issues arise, whether in the portfolio, with LPs, or on regulatory or reputational matters • Establish the facts quickly, bring the right people together, and present options with a clear recommendation • Carry every issue through to resolution
9). Trusted Counsel • Offer the Managing Partner a candid, independent perspective, particularly when it is least expected • Stay close to the team and the portfolio, sensing friction and people issues before they surface • Handle sensitive matters with discretion and maturity
Why This Role This is neither an executive assistant role nor a coordination function. It offers proximity to the firm’s most significant decisions and exposure across the full life of a fund: investing, portfolio, fundraising, and formation. Responsibility grows with performance. For those who aspire to manage a fund, there are few better places to learn how one is built and run.
Must-Have Qualifications • 5–10 years of experience in venture capital, private equity, investment banking, consulting, or a high-growth environment • Working knowledge of the investment lifecycle, fund structures, and fund operations • A record of leading cross-functional initiatives to completion • Strong financial and commercial acumen • Clear, persuasive written and verbal communication • Experience working directly with founders, Managing Partners, or CXOs • MBA or equivalent from a top-tier institution preferred
Traits That Matter • Ambition to build a career in fund management • An instinct for pace and an insistence on follow-through • High agency and a deep sense of ownership • Structured thinking that turns ambiguity into clear plans • Composure under pressure • Loyalty paired with independent judgment • Executive presence • Discretion and integrity
Compensation • Fixed Annual Salary: Rs. 32,00,000, • Fixed Retention Bonus: Rs. 3,00,000, paid at the end of each year • ESOP Eligibility: Rs. 2,50,000, vesting as per policy • Total Annual Compensation: Rs. 37,50,000
