Location/ Office Policy: Molesworth Street / Central Park (3 office days)
• You understand how data is captured, stored, transformed and aggregated across systems, and you are keen to apply that knowledge in a validation context.
• You are comfortable using SQL, querying data warehouses and validating data pipelines end to end.
• You can combine assurance discipline with technical analysis and translate findings into clear, actionable issues for senior stakeholders.
What is the Role:
The Independent Validation Unit sits within Risk Assurance & Validation and independently validates AIB’s risk data aggregation and risk reporting capabilities under BCBS 239. This role focuses on the technical side of validation, including querying systems, testing controls, tracing data lineage and validating reporting outputs. You will join a specialist team working across data governance, data quality, IT infrastructure, regulatory compliance and risk reporting, with strong exposure to senior stakeholders and meaningful opportunities to develop and make an impact.
Key Accountabilities:
- Contribute to the delivery of the team’s validation plan. This can include:
- Performing end-to-end data lineage reviews, tracing Key Business Elements (KBEs) and Critical Data Elements (CDEs) from source systems through aggregation layers to final reports.
- Executing detailed data validation testing, including reperformance of calculations, reconciliation across systems, and assessment of manual adjustments and overrides.
- Designing and delivering data-driven testing using SQL, Power BI and other analytical tools to identify data quality issues and control gaps.
- Assessing the design and operating effectiveness of data quality controls, including automated rules, thresholds and exception-handling processes.
- Preparing clear, well-evidenced findings and contribute to reports for senior management, the Board Risk Committee and regulatory engagement.
- Contribute to continuous monitoring capabilities, including automated dashboards and data-rule testing that extend validation coverage beyond periodic reviews.
- Provide technical expertise on data and technology matters to the wider Risk Assurance & Validation team.
What you Will Bring:
- Experience: Minimum four years in data analytics, data management, data engineering or technology, ideally within financial services, audit or compliance. Assurance experience is a strong advantage.
- Technical skills: Strong SQL proficiency is desirable, along with experience in enterprise data platforms such as Teradata, EDW environments, Ab Initio or QlikView. Practical experience with Power BI or similar visualisation tools, together with knowledge of data lineage, data warehousing and ETL processes.
- Assurance mindset: Understanding of control and risk management methodologies. A qualification such as CISA, CRISC or IIA, or in data management or regulatory compliance, is preferred but not essential.
- Regulatory awareness: Familiarity with BCBS 239 principles, data governance frameworks or banking regulatory requirements is an advantage.
- Communication: Ability to document technical findings clearly, present issues to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate effectively across teams.
- Drive: A proactive self-starter with excellent attention to detail who is comfortable working to deadlines in a dynamic environment.
