The Tax & Year-End area at Shine
The Tax & Year-End area is a brand-new area at Shine with a dual mission: building the pan-European tax & year-end engine, and building a winning product for tax advisors and CPAs in Germany. German accounting and tax is a highly specialized domain, and building the right product requires more than generic product expertise. We need someone who can understand the tax advisory profession in Germany and help us turn that expertise into a stellar product.
Your role as Senior Product Manager, Global Tax Software
The Tax & Year-End area is built around two core teams: Global Year-End , which takes accountants from raw books to approved annual accounts, and Global Tax , which takes those approved figures all the way to a filed and accepted tax return.
As Senior Product Manager, Global Tax Software, you own the tax half of the engine. You lead the product side in a cross-functional team of engineers, design and tax domain experts building a multi-country tax module, natively integrated with the common ledger underlying Shine and able to run on top of other systems. Germany comes first, with France close behind and Spain next. You will work hand in hand with the Senior PM for Global Year-End: their output is your input.
📍 Job located in Berlin, Germany with possibility of remote working days
What you will do
- Own the Global Tax strategy and roadmap — all annual business tax returns across all core markets sequenced by customer value and regulatory deadlines.
- Build one tax engine, not three products — define what is shared (data model, tax mapping from the ledger, rules framework, review workflow) and what is local (forms, calculations, validations), so each new country is a configuration, not a rebuild.
- Own electronic filing end-to-end — transmission and certification through ELSTER/ERiC in Germany and the equivalent channels in France and Spain, including submission status, error handling and checking the tax assessment (Steuerbescheid) against the filed return.
- Serve two segments on one engine — primarily a comprehensive, high-throughput workflow for tax advisors and CPAs, and secondarily a simplified, guided DIY experience for business owners in Shine Micro.
- Make AI a core capability — pre-filled returns, automated classification of tax-relevant postings, plausibility checks and clear explanations that let advisors review instead of re-key.
- Run deep discovery with tax advisors — sit with Steuerberater and their teams during tax season, understand where time is lost today, and turn that into a sharp, prioritised backlog.
- Keep the product compliant year after year — set up a reliable process for annual form changes, new legislation and authority interface updates, so advisors can trust the product when deadlines hit.
- Orchestrate across the ecosystem — partner closely with Global Year-End, Core Accounting, Advisor, the common ledger teams and the local products in France, Germany and Spain.
What success looks like
- German tax advisors file their clients' core annual business tax returns from Shine via ELSTER, with a high first-time acceptance rate.
- The handoff from Global Year-End to Global Tax is seamless: approved accounts flow into tax returns without manual re-entry.
- The engine architecture is proven multi-country, with France live or in beta on the same foundation.
- Advisors measurably win back time per return, and Micro customers can complete a simple return on their own.
- Annual form and legislation updates ship on time, every year, without fire drills.
What you will bring
- You are a seasoned product manager — 5+ years building complex B2B SaaS, ideally in tax, accounting, ERP or other regulated domains, with a track record of taking products from discovery to adoption.
- You have good accounting fundamentals — you have a good understand of double-entry bookkeeping, charts of accounts, and how a ledger turns into financial statements.
- You think in platforms — you can separate what is shared from what is local across countries and turn that into a scalable engine.
- You are technically fluent — comfortable discussing data models, rules engines, APIs and government interfaces with engineers.
- You are AI-fluent — you use AI in your own workflow and think critically about where AI should change how tax work gets done.
- You care about precision — tax filings leave no room for “almost right”, and you design for correctness, auditability and trust.
- You communicate clearly — with engineers on system design, with tax advisors on workflow needs, and with leadership on trade-offs.
- You are fluent in English ; German is a big plus.
