About this role

Hiring for a Certification Engineer in Wallingford!

Job Description The Certification Engineer supports industrial products throughout the full product certification lifecycle, working closely with external certification agencies and test laboratories to achieve and maintain approvals. This role reviews electrical schematics and product designs, interprets certification requirements, and collaborates with engineering teams to implement necessary design or component changes. The engineer ensures ongoing compliance as products move from development into production and provides expertise across safety, EMC, environmental, and hazardous-location certifications. The position offers high ownership and visibility, broad engineering exposure, and the opportunity to work on cutting-edge industrial technologies such as digital flow measurement and sensor/instrumentation products. Responsibilities

- Lead and support the certification process for industrial products from initial concept through final approval and production release.
- Coordinate directly with external certification agencies and test laboratories to plan, schedule, and oversee product testing and evaluations.
- Review electrical schematics and circuit diagrams to identify potential compliance issues and ensure designs meet applicable certification standards.
- Interpret and apply certification requirements from agencies such as UL, CSA, TÜV, Intertek, FM, or similar organizations to industrial product designs.
- Collaborate with internal engineering teams to define, implement, and validate design or component changes needed to achieve certification.
- Prepare, submit, and maintain technical documentation required by certification agencies, including test plans, reports, and compliance records.
- Support safety, EMC, environmental, and hazardous-location certification efforts for new and existing industrial products.
- Troubleshoot certification issues by analyzing test results, identifying root causes, and driving corrective actions with cross-functional teams.
- Assist in resolving manufacturing and production issues related to certification, compliance, and design changes.
- Ensure products remain compliant as they transition from development into production and through subsequent design iterations.
- Provide guidance on hazardous-area certification requirements, including ATEX, IECEx, Class I Division 2, and other HazLoc standards.
- Advise on electrical design decisions, including component selection and circuit design, to meet power, current, and safety limitations.
- Communicate effectively with both internal engineering stakeholders and external certification bodies to align expectations and timelines.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of certification processes, documentation practices, and internal standards.
- Support broader engineering initiatives by collaborating across different disciplines and contributing to product development, testing, and manufacturing activities.

Essential Skills

- Direct experience supporting industrial products through the complete certification process, rather than solely consumer products.
- Hands-on experience working with external certification agencies such as UL, CSA, TÜV, Intertek, FM, or comparable organizations.
- Strong electrical knowledge with the ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and circuit diagrams.
- Ability to understand circuits, components, power and current limitations, and how these factors affect certification outcomes.
- Experience with hazardous-area certification, including familiarity with ATEX, IECEx, Class I Division 2, and HazLoc standards.
- Electrical design experience, particularly at the board or circuit level, to implement design changes in response to certification feedback.
- Exposure to safety, EMC, environmental, or international certification requirements for industrial products.
- Strong documentation skills for preparing and maintaining certification-related records, test reports, and technical files.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working across engineering disciplines and with external partners.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline, or extensive equivalent engineering experience.
- Board-level electrical design experience that enables implementation of design changes driven by certification requirements.
- Broader compliance experience across EMC, safety, environmental, and international certification frameworks.
- Experience with digital flow measurement, sensors, or instrumentation products in an industrial context.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate complex certification standards and translate them into practical design and process changes.
- Interest in expanding into different areas of engineering or into business-focused roles as part of long-term career growth.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and certification efforts simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
- Problem-solving mindset with a focus on troubleshooting test failures, resolving issues, and driving continuous improvement.
