About this role
Job Description
As a Software Engineer on the Litigation Drafting team you will be building the next generation of AI agentic product for legal professionals. The team takes early Labs concepts and turns them into scalable, production-ready features. You will be developing a product which is pushing the boundaries of agentic design by incorporating an complex workflow UI and a specialized Legal agent.
This role is aimed at someone early in their career who wants to move quickly. You will get real ownership sooner than is typical, you will be expected to use AI tooling to multiply what one engineer can deliver - your ceiling is set by how fast you learn rather than by how long you have been doing this. This role is focused on back-end skills but there is the opportunity to get front end developer experience to develop into a full-stack engineer
We are looking for team players with a strong sense of urgency and a desire to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment who will drive the delivery of timely solutions. You are empowered to try new approaches and learn new technologies. You will have agency to contribute innovative ideas, create solutions, and will be accountable for end-to-end deliveries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and ship AI Agentic features end to end: Take a feature from a written requirement through design, implementation, code review and production. You will operate with a moderate level of guidance and own straightforward projects outright.
- Design and build backend services using Python, FastAPI, and PostgreSQL to support real-time AI interactions and large-scale data flows, with direct contribution to AI-powered capabilities such as agentic workflows, LLM orchestration, and content pipelines.
- Productionize AI Capabilities: Integrate with modern LLM providers (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic) and implement reliable orchestration, routing, error handling, guardrails, telemetry, and deep observability for performance and reliability. Strengthen CI/CD pipelines and DevOps automation to support fast, stable, cloud‑native development workflows.
- Use AI as a force multiplier: Apply AI coding and testing tooling to your own work, and help build AI capabilities into the product itself. Translate business requirements into solutions that use AI where it is the right answer, and do not where it is not.
- Diagnose and fix: Read unfamiliar code, run root cause analysis, troubleshoot production behavior, and act on issues raised by automated code quality inspection.
- Raise the quality bar: Contribute to automated testing strategy and to continuous integration and delivery pipelines, treating test coverage as part of a feature rather than as a follow-up.
- Collaborate across functions: Participate actively in design discussions, agile ceremonies and cross-team work with Product, design and Labs teams
- Help others as you grow: Share what you learn, support colleagues on problems you have already solved, and contribute to a team culture where learning out loud is normal.
Required Qualifications
- Technical Experience; 1-3+ years of professional software development experience.
- Backend & Cloud Skills: Working knowledge of Python, and experience in AWS, Azure or GCP Cloud services. Solid understanding of RESTful API design, distributed systems and microservices architecture. Experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Technical Judgment: Excellent debugging skills and a proven ability to deliver production-ready, highly reliable systems.
- Collaboration & Communication: Comfortable operating in fast-paced, iterative environments, with strong cross-functional communication skills.
- Evidence that you learn fast. Be ready to point to something specific you taught yourself and then shipped, and to explain how you went about it.
Preferred Qualifications:
- BA or BS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
- Experience with performance optimization for backend systems, including monitoring, profiling, and tuning for scale
- Hands-on experience building AI-powered product features, ideally agentic AI workflows including multi-step reasoning. Using tool/API orchestrations, LLM APIs, RAG pipelines, Claude Agent SDK / AgentCore at runtime
- Experience with Agentic UI - SSE/AG-UI streaming semantics, TypeScript/React
- Experience with Datadog (logs/RUM/traces), CloudWatch Log Insights, and Braintrust
- Familiarity with AI/ML infrastructure including vector databases, model serving, and cost/latency optimization for LLM-powered features
- Experience testing, automation, and operational robustness
- Prior experience working on products for legal, compliance, or other regulated professional domains
