About this role
COMPANY OVERVIEW
We exist to make food the world loves. But we do more than that. Our company is a place that prioritizes being a force for good, a place to expand learning, explore new perspectives and reimagine new possibilities, every day. We look for people who want to bring their best — bold thinkers with big hearts who challenge one another and grow together. Because becoming the undisputed leader in food means surrounding ourselves with people who are hungry for what’s next.

OVERVIEW
This senior Individual Contributor (IC) role sits within the Box Tops for Education (BTFE) engineering team, responsible for designing, building, and operating scalable, reliable, and maintainable backend services and APIs that power the BTFE platform. The individual will personally design and develop robust, enterprise-grade solutions built on .NET Core, RESTful APIs, and a microservices architecture, following best practices, coding standards, and sound architectural principles — with no direct reports or formal people-management responsibility. With advanced hands-on expertise across the .NET Core, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL ecosystem, they will execute full lifecycle development — from technical planning and design to implementation, deployment, and ongoing optimization — within an Agile delivery model, working closely with peers, the Delivery Manager, and cross-functional stakeholders. The role also includes direct ownership of production stability, batch job orchestration via Tidal, troubleshooting, and performance tuning to ensure reliability, scalability, and sustained technical excellence across all platforms.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Technical Execution & Delivery
- Owning end-to-end design, development, and delivery of complex BTFE platform modules and features, following Agile/Scrum delivery practices
- Applying coding, testing, and design standards for .NET Core, API, and microservices development to ensure scalability, maintainability, and performance
- Providing hands-on production support, including monitoring and troubleshooting of Tidal-scheduled batch jobs, incident response, and root cause analysis for critical issues
- Actively participating in sprint planning, requirement gathering, scope definition, and technical planning alongside the Delivery Manager and team
- Providing reliable technical estimates for assigned work and flagging effort/resourcing risks
- Participating in code and design reviews to ensure technical consistency and best practices
- Contributing to architectural discussions on microservices decomposition and API design, surfacing design gaps and proposing solutions
- Performing performance tuning, query optimization (SQL Server/PostgreSQL), and system-level analysis on owned components
Continuous Learning & Collaboration
- Staying current with emerging technologies and frameworks across the .NET and microservices ecosystem and applying them to own work
- Sharing technical knowledge and informal guidance with peers through code reviews, pairing, and discussions
- Contributing to internal initiatives such as architecture reviews and engineering talks
- Collaborating effectively within the team and supporting a positive, Agile-aligned working culture
Technical Problem-Solving
- Contributing to high-level estimations and technical plans for assigned features and modules
- Designing and building complex, scalable, and secure technical solutions using .NET Core, API, and microservices
- Acting as a subject-matter resource on BTFE's technical implementation when consulted by stakeholders
- Contributing hands-on to technology direction and stack decisions within the team, including execution of the SQL Server to PostgreSQL migration
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Independently plans and manages own workload across complex tasks, contributing input to sprint and project planning in an Agile environment.
- Has personally delivered multiple medium-to-large project components or key enterprise-level features with full accountability for quality and timely delivery.
- Follows and helps refine IT technical standards, consistently applying best practices in own work.
- Possesses expert-level knowledge of enterprise architecture, microservices design patterns, and technical toolsets, applying them to build resilient, scalable solutions.
- Strong hands-on experience with .NET Core and Web API development for building and maintaining enterprise-grade backend services.
- Solid working knowledge of relational databases, including SQL Server and PostgreSQL, with the ability to design schemas, write performant queries, and support database migrations.
- Experience with microservices architecture, including service decomposition, inter-service communication, and deployment patterns.
- Practical experience working within Agile/Scrum delivery teams, including sprint planning, estimation, and iterative delivery.
- Hands-on experience with Tidal (or similar enterprise job scheduling tools) for designing, monitoring, and troubleshooting batch/scheduled jobs.
- Designs and governs complex third-party integrations, including with SaaS platforms, with a strong focus on performance, scalability, and security.
- Shares knowledge and provides technical guidance to peers informally, without formal mentorship or supervisory accountability
- Grows by deepening and sharing technical expertise.
- Delivers impactful, high-quality technical results independently.
- Collaborates and aligns effectively with cross-functional partners.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Preferred: Prior experience on the BTFE (Box Tops for Education) platform or similar education/loyalty rewards platforms.
- Preferred: Experience supporting a SQL Server to PostgreSQL migration.
- Preferred: Advanced experience with enterprise-grade API and microservices platforms, with a track record of delivering scalable backend solutions at scale.
