About this role
Imagine what you could do here. At Apple our world leading products and services are built upon foundations of rigorous and advanced engineering. Bring passion and dedication to your job and there's no telling what you work could enable. Join the iCloud Platform team as a software engineering intern and help build privacy-preserving cloud infrastructure that enables applications and experiences for millions of users. You'll collaborate with experienced engineers who are passionate about delivering features that maintain strong privacy guarantees for users.
As an Intern on the Private Cloud Compute Platform Data Plane team, you will help design, build, and improve the distributed systems that sit at the heart of Apple's privacy-preserving cloud compute infrastructure. You'll work alongside experienced engineers and collaborate closely with Privacy and Security teams, because privacy is paramount at Apple. You'll own a well-scoped project, and by the end of the internship you'll have shipped real work and gained hands-on experience in distributed systems, scalability, and privacy-focused engineering.
This is a chance to work on problems that have never been solved before, using technologies such as the memory-safe Swift language, anonymized networking, and hardened operating systems, in partnership with teams across Apple.
Please note that this internship is based full time in London, UK. We expect the successful candidate to work full time, 5 days a week, with 3 days onsite at the office. You will spend most of your day on focused work such as coding, pairing, and designing, and the rest connecting with colleagues, including teams in the US. You must be in full-time education at university, or on a sandwich year, for the duration of the internship.
Minimum Qualifications
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of 2 years completed.

Strong problem-solving and debugging skills, and a proven willingness to learn new technologies.
Familiarity with version control and collaborative development tools like GitHub and AI tools, like Claude.
Experience with Unix-like operating systems (macOS, Linux).
Great organisational and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Coursework or project experience in distributed systems, networking, or systems programming.
Experience building or contributing to services, through projects, open source, or prior internships.
Familiarity with application layer protocols and API design, especially protobuf and gRPC, or HTTP REST.
Interest in or understanding of security techniques such as certificates, software signing, and attestation.
Interest in security and privacy engineering in distributed systems.
A self-starter who is comfortable with new technology and evolving requirements, and who is also a collaborative teammate.
