About this role
## Discover Your Career at Emory University
Emory University is a leading research university that fosters excellence and attracts world-class talent to innovate today and prepare leaders for the future. We welcome candidates who can contribute to the excellence of our academic community.
Description
Full Professor – Department of Human Genetics
The Department of Human Genetics invites applications for a tenured faculty position at the rank of Full Professor. We seek an accomplished and internationally recognized investigator with an outstanding research program in human genetics and genomics, with expertise in noncoding and regulatory genomics and its application to understanding human disease.
The successful candidate will be expected to continue and expand a highly innovative, externally funded research program focused on defining how genetic variation within the noncoding genome contributes to human disease. A particular area of interest is understanding the relationship between genetic risk for neuropsychiatric disorders and the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying disease. The candidate's research program should integrate advanced genomic and computational approaches to define the regulatory architecture of the human genome and translate genetic discoveries into biological mechanisms.
Research may include applying chromosome-conformation and functional genomic technologies, including Hi-C and related approaches, to define three-dimensional genome organization and regulatory interactions in the human brain. By integrating these maps with human genetic and genomic data, including common variants associated with neuropsychiatric disorders, the program is expected to identify functional regulatory elements, target genes, and molecular pathways through which disease-associated genetic variation influences brain development and function. Opportunities exist to expand this work by integrating emerging approaches in single-cell and spatial genomics, multiomics, functional genomics, and computational and AI-enabled analysis.
The majority of the faculty member's effort will be devoted to maintaining and expanding their research program, securing extramural research support, publishing high-impact scholarship, and developing collaborative research programs within the Department of Human Genetics and across the broader Emory research community.
In addition to research, the faculty member will contribute to the academic missions of the Department and School of Medicine through teaching, service, and mentorship. Responsibilities will include participation in graduate education, service on departmental and institutional committees, and mentorship of trainees and junior faculty. As a senior member of the Department, the successful candidate will be expected to play an important role in fostering the career development of junior investigators and strengthening collaborative and interdisciplinary research in human genetics and genomic medicine.
Qualifications
Candidates should hold a PhD, MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree and have a distinguished record of scholarship appropriate for appointment as a tenured Full Professor. Candidates should demonstrate:
- An internationally recognized research program in human genetics, genomics, regulatory genomics, neurogenomics, or a closely related field;
- A strong record of sustained extramural research funding and high-impact scholarly publications;
- Expertise in noncoding genome regulation and functional interpretation of human genetic variation, with experience in three-dimensional genomics, functional genomics, computational genomics, or related approaches;
- A strong record of collaborative and interdisciplinary research;
- Demonstrated excellence in mentoring graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and/or junior faculty; and
- Commitment to teaching, academic service, and the broader missions of the Department of Human Genetics and Emory University School of Medicine.
The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative environment with broad strengths in human genetics, genomics, neurogenetics, computational and quantitative genomics, functional genomics, and genomic medicine. The position provides an opportunity to further build a nationally and internationally recognized research program while contributing to the continued growth and scientific leadership of the Department of Human Genetics.
NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
