About this role

ABOUT SLATE

At Slate, we’re building safe, reliable vehicles that people can afford, personalize and love—and doing it here in the USA as part of our commitment to reindustrialization. The spirit of DIY and customization runs throughout every element of a Slate, because people should have control over how their trucks look, feel, and represent them.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are seeking a detail-oriented Accounts Receivable Analyst to join Slate's AR team and own the daily transactional work across reservation deposits, vehicle sales, and merchandise. Reporting to the Accounts Receivable Manager, this role applies cash, processes refunds, clears exceptions, reconciles accounts, and keeps AR close on schedule. The ideal candidate brings strong AR fundamentals, a roll-up-your-sleeves work ethic, and the ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment where the volume is growing and no one is too senior to clear a break.

WHAT YOU GET TO DO

Cash Application & Daily Operations

- Apply daily cash across reservation deposits, vehicle balance payments, and merchandise sales, matching every payment to the correct customer and order in SAP.
- Process refunds, chargebacks, and cancellations accurately and on time, and convert deposits in SAP as customers move from reservation to delivery.
- Work the unapplied cash queue every day: research each item, clear it, and escalate anything that cannot be resolved within the established aging threshold.
- Keep customer AR balances clean by researching and correcting discrepancies with customers, payment processors, and internal teams as they come up.
- Monitor the invoicing pipeline for integration breaks between the order management system, payment processors, and SAP; log each break, work it with the system owner, and escalate to the AR Manager when it cannot be cleared within the established threshold.
- Run the AR aging report on a set cadence, identify overdue and at-risk balances, and contact customers directly to resolve open items; document every touchpoint and outcome, and escalate unresponsive accounts or anything requiring commercial judgment to the AR Manager.
- Pitch in wherever the queue is longest. At a startup, the AR Analyst is the person who actually clears the backlog, whether that is a stack of refunds, a processor settlement that will not tie, or a customer who needs a corrected invoice today.

AR Close & Reconciliations

- Prepare daily and monthly AR reconciliations across payment processors, auto financing partners, and bank accounts; clear breaks at the source and document each resolution step.
- Complete assigned AR month-end close tasks, including customer deposit liability schedules, AR aging analysis, and processor and lender receivable reconciliations, on the close calendar set by the AR Manager.
- Pull together AR-related close inputs in accordance with Slate's Cash Policy and Customer Deposits Standard Operating Procedure.
- Compile monthly AR metrics (Days Sales Outstanding, unapplied cash aging, exception counts) from sub-ledger and queue data and hand them to the AR Manager for review.
- Prepare and submit manual journal entries supporting AR close, including customer deposit liability adjustments, reclassifications, and accruals, attaching appropriate support and routing for manager approval in accordance with Slate's Delegation of Authority.

Controls & Documentation

- Prepare and maintain reconciliation workpapers, control evidence, and process narratives in support of Slate's SOX-readiness program.
- Complete reviewer sign-off checklists, file retention evidence in line with AR control requirements, and flag any gaps or exceptions to the AR Manager.
- Write and update step-by-step desk procedures for every task you own, so the process lives in a document and not only in your head.

System & Cross-Functional Support

- Execute user acceptance test scripts for system changes that touch customer payments, customer balances, or the AR sub-ledger; document results and log defects.

- Submit support tickets to payment processors, financing partners, and SaaS providers; follow up until each ticket is resolved and escalate to the AR Manager when SLAs are at risk.
- Test new payment methods, sales channels, and pricing updates in the AR sub-ledger before go-live and report what breaks to the AR Manager.
- Provide transaction-level detail, reconciliations, and AR data to Treasury, Accounting, and Digital teammates when they need it for order-to-cash and bank-to-book work.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

- 3-5 years of accounts receivable, cash application, or accounting operations experience in a high-transaction-volume environment.
- Strong AR fundamentals: cash application, customer deposit accounting, AR close, reconciliations, aging analysis, and exception management.
- Hands-on experience with SAP AR (or a comparable ERP); familiarity with a payment processor (Adyen, Stripe, or similar) is a plus.
- Highly organized with a low tolerance for open items: clear breaks, document resolutions, and do not let exceptions age.
- Clear and concise communicator who can explain an AR discrepancy to a non-finance teammate and walk a reviewer through a reconciliation.
- Advanced Excel skills; comfortable with pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP.
- Exposure to SOX control environments or a pre-IPO company is a plus but not required.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, scrappy environment where you will process the transactions, clear the exceptions, and write the procedure as you go.
