We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Consultant Specialist
In this role, you will:
- Design, develop, maintain and support Java/Spring Boot microservices and APIs for the Collateral & Limits Management programme within Credit & Capital Management IT (CIB).
- Take end-to-end ownership of one or more services/components (requirements clarification, technical design, build, test, release and production support) working closely with Tech Leads, BA/PO and QA.
- Build secure, resilient, well-performing services (including logging/monitoring, exception handling, performance tuning, and capacity considerations) aligned to enterprise standards.
- Deliver high-quality code through TDD/unit testing, integration testing, code reviews and CI/CD pipelines; ensure documentation is clear and kept current.
- Contribute to API design, domain modelling and data design, ensuring solutions are scalable and maintainable across distributed systems.
- Apply GenAI where appropriate to accelerate delivery (e.g., coding assistance, test generation, automated documentation, knowledge retrieval) while ensuring safe use, governance compliance and code quality.
- Participate in incident triage and problem management: identify root cause, implement fixes, and drive permanent remediation to improve stability and reduce operational risk.
- Support DevSecOps adoption and agile delivery: collaborate with global/regional teams, continuously improve engineering practices, and share reusable patterns/components.
To be successful, you will:
- Strong hands-on experience in Java v21, Spring Boot and microservices, with proven ability to deliver scalable enterprise-grade applications (REST APIs, messaging, distributed patterns).
- Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals: OO design, SOLID principles, clean code, performance optimisation, concurrency basics and secure coding practices.
- Experience with automated testing and quality gates (JUnit/Mockito, contract/integration testing, code coverage, static analysis), and a “you build it, you run it” mindset.
- Working knowledge of CI/CD and DevSecOps practices (e.g., Git-based workflows, pipeline-driven builds, containerisation, secrets management, vulnerability scanning).
- Experience working in Agile/SAFe environments and collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams to deliver to committed timelines.
- Practical GenAI exposure in a software engineering context (e.g., using approved AI tools to improve coding/testing/productivity; or building/consuming LLM-backed services) with an understanding of risk controls (data privacy, prompt hygiene, hallucination mitigation).
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal), including the ability to explain technical choices, raise risks early, and coordinate across teams.
- Ability to mentor junior engineers through pairing, code reviews and knowledge sharing while maintaining strong personal delivery
You’ll achieve more when you join HSBC.
