About this role

###
What will you do
The Volvo Group service market operates within a complex global network of suppliers, distribution centers, and dealers, such as Central Distribution Centers (CDC), Regional Distribution Centers (RDC), and Support Distribution Centers (SDC). Deciding where a part should be stocked is a critical business challenge that directly impacts customer service, inventory investment, lead times, and operational efficiency.
Many organizations use historical rules, experience, or service level targets to determine stocking locations. However, these approaches may not fully capture the trade-offs between inventory costs and customer value. There is an opportunity to develop a data driven framework that quantifies the value created by stocking a part at different levels of the network.
The purpose of this thesis is to treat the supply chain as a graph optimization problem with various value functions. Example research questions: How can the value of inventory be quantified across different locations? How can demand, availability and costs be balanced to maximize network value?
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and define a supply chain network based on existing supply chain configuration
- Analysis of spare part demand patterns
- Evaluation of cost, availability and service level trade-offs
- Scenario analysis and business impact
###
Expected Outcomes:
- A network value optimization framework
- Quantification of inventory distribution trade-offs
- Decision-support tool
