Introduction: A Career at HARMAN Automotive
We’re a global, multi-disciplinary team that’s putting the innovative power of technology to work and transforming tomorrow. At HARMAN Automotive, we give you the keys to fast-track your career.
- Engineer audio systems and integrated technology platforms that augment the driving experience
- Combine ingenuity, in-depth research, and a spirit of collaboration with design and engineering excellence
- Advance in-vehicle infotainment, safety, efficiency, and enjoyment
What You’ll Be Part Of
As Platform Architect, you will combine strategic platform ownership with hands-on software engineering within HARMAN Automotive’s DigITal Manufacturing organization. You will define, evolve, and continuously improve the architecture of the global DigITal Factory platform while also designing solution architectures for concrete manufacturing business requirements. This role requires someone who can move comfortably from architecture to implementation: analyzing complex problems, developing and reviewing software, validating technical solutions, and supporting critical platform issues. You will work with global business teams, enterprise architecture, product, engineering, and support teams to deliver secure, scalable, supportable, and cost-conscious solutions across shop-floor and enterprise environments.
How You’ll Make An Impact
- Own and continuously improve the architecture, technology standards, reusable capabilities, and technical roadmap of the (DigITal Factory) platform developed for improving Harman’s manufacturing efficiency.
- Align with Enterprise Architecture team to create a consistent global architecture across ERP, MES, PLM, machine, shop-floor, and other enterprise integrations.
- Translate business and manufacturing requirements into pragmatic solution architectures, including application components, interfaces, data flows, deployment patterns, security, and operational requirements.
- Work hands-on across the software lifecycle by developing and reviewing code, building prototypes, resolving defects, and implementing platform or application improvements when needed.
- Analyze complex functional and technical problems, reproduce issues, perform root-cause analysis, and define sustainable corrective and preventive solutions.
- Ensure that individual solutions fit the shared platform architecture, reuse common services, follow engineering standards, and remain maintainable across global plant deployments.
- Evaluate technology options and project requests for feasibility, architectural fit, delivery effort, dependencies, cost, supportability, and operational risk; present recommendations to technical and business stakeholders.
- Provide technical leadership to developers and L2/L3 support teams through design reviews, code reviews, troubleshooting, coaching, and resolution of critical production or platform issues.
What Makes You A Strong Fit
- Bachelor’s degree in IT or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- Solid experience applying modern platform engineering and enterprise application practices, including APIs, microservices, integration patterns, CI/CD, containers, message queues, Kubernetes, observability, security, high availability, and lifecycle support.
- 10+ years of experience spanning object-oriented enterprise software development, solution architecture, and the design or evolution of global enterprise platforms.
- Strong hands-on software engineering capability in enterprise environments.
- Proven ability to analyze business requirements, identify functional and non-functional needs, compare solution options, and produce implementable architecture decisions and technical designs.
- Strong advisory, stakeholder-management, and presentation skills, including experience communicating solution proposals.
- A systematic, hands-on problem-solving mindset with the ability to switch between strategic platform decisions, detailed solution design, software implementation, and operational incident analysis; professional working proficiency in English is required.
Bonus Points if You Have
- Experience leading or technically governing global Industry 4.0, manufacturing digitalization, or enterprise integration initiatives.
- Hands-on experience with common industrial protocols such as OPC UA, MQTT, and Modbus.
- Experience working with structured and time-series Big Data, data transport and exchange protocols, secure communication, and end-to-end systems integration.
- Experience with databases including InfluxDB, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Oracle.
- Experience with enterprise messaging technologies such as Kafka and RabbitMQ.
- Experience building prototypes or production solutions for shop-floor connectivity, edge computing, analytics, Big Data, or machine learning.
