Civil Designer, Infrastructure Programs

Tesla is seeking a Civil Engineer Designer to lead civil design drawing production and delivery for multi-billion-dollar refinery large scale factory and refinery projects in the United States. You will join the Infrastructure Organization’s Central Engineering Team, report to the Civil Engineering Manager, and work with a team of civil engineers and designers.

You will work primarily in AutoCAD Civil 3D to produce accurate, permit-ready, and construction-ready drawings and models as part of a multidisciplinary team. You will translate engineering direction into detailed site plans while developing expertise in large-scale industrial land development.

This position is also available in Austin, TX.

- Prepare design drawings, plans, profiles, sections, details, and 3D models, including initial model and sheet setup (modeling and design deliverables in AutoCAD and Civil 3D), with emphasis on site layout, grading/earthwork, stormwater/drainage, utilities, roadways/paving, and erosion & sediment control
- Develop and refine site grading plans, surfaces, alignments, corridors, pipe networks, and earthwork analyses to ensure proper drainage, accessibility, cut/fill balance, and constructability
- Layout and detail underground utilities (water, sanitary sewer, storm drain) and coordinate with roadway and other site infrastructure elements
- Work with the BIM/CAD support team to achieve consistent results, maintain CAD standards, and incorporate new design into existing facility and site models
- Assist with CAD custom content creation, tool development, dynamic blocks, and standard details relevant to land development and industrial site work
- Produce high-quality models and complete plan sets (layout, grading, drainage, utilities, profiles, ESC/SWPPP, details) from engineer markups/redlines; perform basic quantity takeoffs
- Support permitting efforts by preparing exhibits, responding to agency review comments, and assisting with submission packages

- A minimum of 5 years of roadway and utility design
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D
- Ability to determine efficient drafting and modeling methods to clearly convey engineering design intent in construction drawings and 3D models
- Working knowledge of land development principles, including site layout, grading, stormwater management and BMPs, utility design, roadway geometry, erosion & sediment control, and basic local/agency standards (Texas experience is advantageous)
- Ability to interpret topographic and boundary surveys, engineer markups, codes, and site constraints; produce clean, well-organized, standards-compliant deliverables
- Strong attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines on multiple tasks, and eagerness to learn advanced Civil 3D workflows and Tesla project processes
