About the Role:
We are seeking a Manager, Family Office Accounting to support the financial operations of our family office across multiple entities. This is a hands-on leadership role for a seasoned accounting professional with strong exposure to individual and high-net-worth tax matters, partnership structures, hedge fund accounting, and investment reporting, who can balance detailed execution with team oversight and stakeholder communication. The role is best suited for someone with a deep accounting foundation who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has experience carrying accounting work from books and records through tax preparation, ideally in a firm or role where they were responsible for both maintaining the accounting records and preparing tax returns.
The ideal candidate may come from a public accounting firm, family office, or similarly complex environment where they had responsibility for both books and records and tax preparation support. They will bring a strong accounting background, excellent technical accounting skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to operate confidently in a high-expectation, high-discretion environment. This individual should be energized by the opportunity to help build and improve processes, reporting, controls, and team capabilities as the family office continues to evolve. This role serves as a key liaison between the Director of Family Office and junior accounting staff, as well as external advisors.
Responsibilities
What you will do:
- Oversee and execute accounting operations across multiple family office entities
- Prepare, review, and manage monthly close activities, journal entries, and reconciliations
- Own full-cycle accounting workflows from transaction activity, books and records, reconciliations, and close-through preparation of tax-ready workpapers and supporting schedules
- Develop, review, and maintain working paper packages, with a strong understanding of underlying financial activity
- Prepare financial summaries, analyses, and presentation materials to support leadership and family stakeholders
- Manage cash flow, banking activity, and liquidity across entities
- Coordinate with external accountants, tax advisors, and legal partners
- Work closely with tax preparers and, where applicable, prepare or review individual, partnership, and related entity tax return information based on the underlying books and records
- Support individual and high-net-worth tax planning and compliance workflows by coordinating closely with external tax advisors and maintaining well-organized supporting documentation
- Assist with partnership-related accounting and reporting, including capital activity, allocations, K-1 support, and coordination of tax-sensitive investment information
- Oversee accounting and reporting for marketable and alternative investment activity, including hedge funds, private funds, portfolio activity, and related performance and income reporting
- Develop investment reporting and analysis that clearly explains activity, exposures, performance drivers, and tax-relevant considerations for leadership and family stakeholders
- Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to internal controls and best practices
- Lead, coach, and review the work of two direct reports, providing ongoing guidance and development
- Act as a day-to-day problem solver and escalation point for accounting and operational matters
- Partner closely with the Director of Family Office on ad hoc projects and evolving priorities
Qualifications
We want you on our team because you…
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, with a CPA strongly preferred and a demonstrated strength in core accounting principles, reconciliations, financial reporting, and accounting controls.
- Bring 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably from a public accounting firm, family office, or similar setting with exposure to multi-entity accounting and tax-related workflows.
- Have full-cycle accounting through tax preparation experience, ideally from a public accounting firm, family office, fund administration, or similar role where you were responsible for both the books and records and the preparation of tax returns or tax return workpapers.
- Have a strong working knowledge of public financial markets and alternative investments, including hedge funds, private equity funds, venture capital, and related investment accounting and reporting considerations.
- Bring meaningful exposure to individual and high-net-worth tax matters, including partnership tax concepts, K-1s, investment income, estimated tax planning, tax return preparation support, and coordination with outside tax advisors.
- Have experience with hedge fund accounting, fund-level statements, capital activity, performance reporting, and the practical accounting implications of complex investment portfolios.
- Have people management experience and enjoy coaching, reviewing, and developing junior team members.
- Possess exceptional attention to detail and take pride in accuracy and well-organized work
- Are a strong communicator who can engage effectively with senior leaders, external partners, and junior staff.
- Thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment and are able to manage shifting priorities, tight timelines, and high expectations while maintaining accuracy, professionalism, and discretion.
- Are comfortable rolling up your sleeves as a working manager, balancing hands-on execution with oversight.
- Have sound judgment, a high level of integrity, and the ability to handle confidential information with care.
- Can translate complex financial information into clear, actionable insights for non-financial audiences.
- Are excited by the opportunity to help build a best-in-class family office accounting function by improving processes, strengthening reporting, developing scalable workflows, and bringing an ownership mindset to a growing platform.
