About this role
With some assistance, this position is responsible for duplicating and fabricating original parts from drawings, prints or models to meet the needs of Northern's field operations as well as contracted external customers.
- Associate's degree in machining, mechanical or related technical field; or equivalent work experience. (Typically three years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess an Associate's degree).
- One or more years of related machinist experience.
- Must be able to operate or willing to learn to operate the following equipment: Computer Numerically Controlled lathes, vertical milling machines and power band saw; precision lapping machine; a horizontal spindle grinder; Blanchard grinder; manual milling machines; manual engine lathes; hydraulic press; radial arm drills and drill press; arbor press; precision measurement devices (Micrometer, gauge blocks); and specialized hand tools.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective computer skills must be familiar with Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
- Must be flexible and willing to work second shift (4:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.) as scheduled or when required.
- Effectively perform high tolerance work in a hot, noisy environment within time expectations.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time.
- Must be willing to work overtime when required to meet production deadlines.
