About this role
Sr. Mechanical Engineer
The Sr. Mechanical Engineer supports the transition of completed mechanical and electro-mechanical designs into fully defined manufacturing data, including Bills of Material (BOMs), production processes, and standard operating procedures. This role bridges design and manufacturing, ensuring that products are ready for production and that any issues arising on the shop floor are resolved and documented. The position is ideal for an engineer with a strong electro-mechanical history and experience in new product introduction within an aerospace or related environment. ----- Responsibilities
- Convert completed mechanical and electro-mechanical designs into comprehensive manufacturing data, including Bills of Material, production processes, and manufacturing procedures.
- Work collaboratively across engineering, manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams to ensure designs are fully producible and aligned with manufacturing capabilities.
- Solve issues that arise in manufacturing areas, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions to support stable and repeatable production.
- Document all manufacturing issues and resolutions clearly and accurately to support continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
- Utilize SolidWorks models and other CAD tools (such as CATIA or NX) to create, modify, and manage part and assembly designs and associated drawings.
- Generate and maintain accurate BOMs and related engineering documentation to support production and supply chain activities.
- Apply a general understanding of electro-mechanical products and mechanisms to ensure designs integrate mechanical and electrical elements effectively.
- Create and edit assembly drawings in SolidWorks, ensuring clarity, completeness, and adherence to engineering best practices.
- Manage models and assemblies using SolidWorks Vault or similar data management tools, maintaining version control and configuration integrity.
- Conduct redline reviews with relevant stakeholders, incorporating feedback and implementing recommended changes to documentation and models.
- Support stable part outsourcing by refining documentation, models, and specifications to meet supplier and manufacturing needs.
- Support cable harness drawings, mechanism design, or aero design and analysis as needed, leveraging prior experience in these areas.
- Use Microsoft Office and shared file systems to prepare reports, track issues, and organize engineering and manufacturing documentation.
----- Essential Skills
- Bachelors degree (BS) in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering field.
- 5+ years of professional experience in product or mechanism design, cable harness drawing, or aero design and analysis.
- Strong electro-mechanical hands-on experience with a general understanding of electro-mechanical products or mechanisms.
- Proficiency in engineering CAD software tools, with SolidWorks preferred; experience with CATIA and NX or similar tools is valuable.
- Ability to create and manage part designs, assemblies, and detailed drawings using CAD tools.
- Proficiency utilizing SolidWorks models, including creation and editing of assembly drawings and effective use of SolidWorks Vault for model management.
- Experience generating and maintaining Bills of Material (BOMs) and converting engineering information into manufacturing data.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes and production procedures, especially as they relate to mechanical and electro-mechanical systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and shared file systems for documentation, reporting, and collaboration.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve issues that arise in manufacturing environments.
- Effective verbal communication and technical writing skills for documenting issues, solutions, and procedures.
----- Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- 15+ years of experience in electro-mechanical systems; experience in aeronautical product design is a plus.
- Demonstrable skills with FEA and CFD analytical tools for analyzing thermal, mechanical, and electrical systems.
- Hands-on experience with manufacturing composite structures, as well as aluminum, titanium, and steel parts.
- Ability to create tools to streamline complex engineering tasks using VB, Python, or Matlab.
- Deep SolidWorks competency, including best practices for model and assembly generation and robust use of SolidWorks Vault.
- Experience conducting redline reviews with cross-functional stakeholders and implementing recommended changes for improved manufacturability.
- Experience supporting stable part outsourcing by refining documentation, models, and specifications.
- Experience with electrical routing using native SolidWorks tools.
- Skilled in new product introduction, especially in aerospace or complex electro-mechanical product environments.
----- Work Environment This is a contract role with an expected duration of at least six months, with a strong likelihood of extension based on project needs and performance. The position is highly preferred to be onsite in Bingen, Washington (near Hood River), to enable close collaboration with engineering and manufacturing teams and direct interaction with production activities. A hybrid arrangement may be considered, and fully remote work is the least preferred option but may be possible depending on project requirements. The work environment involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams and frequent use of advanced CAD tools such as SolidWorks, CATIA, and NX, as well as analytical tools like FEA and CFD where applicable. You will work with shared file systems, SolidWorks Vault, and standard office productivity tools. The setting supports hands-on engagement with manufacturing processes and materials, including composites and metal structures, in a professional engineering and production environment. ----- Compliance Candidate's must have U.S. Citizenship status in order to be considered due to this being an ITAR compliant facility. ----- Skip the wait Book 15 minutes with me and I'll walk you through whether this is worth your time.
