About this role

About the role

Wego is a travel metasearch and OTA platform operating across MENA and APAC, with a group structure spanning 12 legal entities and subsidiaries in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Pakistan and India. Tax here is not a compliance calendar. It is a live set of open questions: how OTA and metasearch revenue is characterised for indirect tax, how a group transacts across borders when the supplier, the customer and the contracting entity sit in three different countries, and how new market entries get structured before they launch rather than after.

This role owns the group tax position across the footprint. It is hands-on and judgement-heavy, with direct CFO exposure and regular contact with external advisers, auditors and the board.

What you'll own

• Group tax strategy, effective tax rate management and tax provisioning under the group reporting calendar
• Indirect tax across the footprint - UAE VAT, KSA VAT, India GST and local equivalents - including agent-vs-principal characterisation of OTA and metasearch revenue, place-of-supply analysis, and B2C/B2B treatment
• Transfer pricing: policy, intercompany agreements, benchmarking, master file and local file compliance, and defending the position under audit
• Withholding tax, permanent establishment risk and treaty analysis on cross-border supplier, partner and intercompany arrangements
• Tax structuring for new market entries, new entity set-ups, contract novations and regional headquarters arrangements - engaged early, not consulted late
• Tax input into product and commercial decisions: pricing, currency, invoicing requirements, and what the systems need to capture for a position to hold
• Managing external advisers (Big 4 and specialist local firms) - scoping, fee negotiation, and holding them to deliverables
• Tax authority correspondence, audits and disputes across jurisdictions
• Tax support to statutory audits and to due diligence workstreams

What you'll bring

• 8–12+ years in tax, with a Big 4 or law firm foundation and meaningful in-house experience
• Direct experience with GCC indirect tax (UAE and/or KSA) and/or India GST is a significant advantage
• Comfort with agent/principal and gross-vs-net questions, and the judgement to know when they are tax questions and when they are accounting questions
• Multi-entity, multi-jurisdiction group experience e-commerce, marketplace, travel, fintech or another transaction-heavy model preferred
• Transfer pricing depth, not just oversight of an adviser's output
• Hands-on ERP experience; NetSuite OneWorld preferred
• Chartered Accountant, CPA, ACCA or equivalent; a dedicated tax qualification is a plus
• Someone who writes clearly, works in short cycles, and can hold a position with advisers, auditors and tax authorities.

Why this role

• Real technical range: six-plus jurisdictions, indirect tax, transfer pricing and structuring in one seat

• Direct reporting line to the Group CFO, with regular exposure to the board and to external advisers and auditors

• Build mandate: much of the group's tax policy and documentation architecture is being set up for the first time
