About Powers and Sons

Powers & Sons Construction is a third-generation, family-owned general contractor and construction management firm founded in 1967. With offices in Gary, Indianapolis, and Chicago, we serve clients across a range of commercial and institutional markets.

Position overview

The Business Systems Analyst will help Powers & Sons understand and improve how work gets done across the company. Reporting directly to the President/CEO, this person will assess department workflows, business applications, and data; develop practical recommendations; and help build a multi-year improvement plan with leadership.

The initial focus is structured department assessments: the people involved, the steps they follow, the software they use, the information they need, and the tasks they would most like to improve or eliminate. The analyst will document findings, rank opportunities with department leaders, and carry approved improvements through requirements, testing, training, and adoption.

This position offers increasing project ownership for someone ready to grow beyond supporting individual systems or assignments. The analyst will work with department leaders, internal AI development resources, and third-party IT providers. Leadership will set priorities, approve investments, and support decisions that cross departments.

Key responsibilities

Conduct department assessments through interviews, workflow observation, and review of available records, using an agreed scope and method. Document responsibilities, approvals, handoffs, manual work, duplicate entry, delays, and recurring problems.

Maintain an inventory of business applications, spreadsheets, reporting tools, and vendor services, including their purpose, users, ownership, costs, and connections to other systems.

Identify key data sources, definitions, owners, access needs, and quality issues. Establish baseline measures and practical data collection methods to support decisions and track improvement.

Prepare and validate department findings, including process maps, software and data inventories, and ranked improvement opportunities. Work with department leaders and specialists to estimate costs, benefits, dependencies, and ownership.

Help leadership develop and maintain a multi-year roadmap. Compare process changes, training, existing tools, integrations, new software, automation, and AI based on business needs, available evidence, and implementation effort.

Implementation and ongoing improvement

Translate approved priorities into business requirements, task plans, and success measures. Lead smaller improvement projects and coordinate assigned work on larger initiatives, including testing and post-launch follow-up.

Research software and service options, document integration needs, and prepare comparisons for leadership. Track assigned vendor deliverables, project costs, and issues, escalating decisions when needed.

Develop clear procedures, training materials, and support handoffs. Work with employees and department leaders to address resistance and establish consistent use of new processes and systems.

Partner with IT providers and internal technical resources on data access, security requirements, system reliability, and responsible AI use. Engage specialists when an initiative requires additional expertise.

Track adoption, results, and ongoing costs. Report progress, risks, and decisions to leadership, and update priorities as business needs change.

Required qualifications

Professional experience in business analysis, business systems, process improvement, operations analysis, or implementation consulting. Demonstrated contribution to a delivered improvement and ownership of a defined project or workstream.

Ability to conduct interviews, document workflows, investigate problems, and translate business needs into clear requirements and recommendations.

Experience working with business users and technical colleagues to implement or improve a process, application, or report. Ability to explain personal responsibilities and what changed as a result.

Ability to organize and analyze data using spreadsheets or comparable tools, identify data-quality issues, and explain findings. Familiarity with business applications and how information moves between systems.

Ability to organize competing assignments, compare options, follow through on commitments, and communicate clearly with employees, vendors, and leadership.

Ability to work independently within an agreed scope, handle confidential information appropriately, ask useful questions, act on feedback, and recognize when to seek help.

Preferred experience

Approximately three to five years of relevant experience is preferred; demonstrated capability and project ownership matter more than tenure. Experience with ERP, CRM, HRIS, financial systems, SQL, Power BI, workflow automation, or practical AI applications is useful. Relevant education and certifications are welcome, with equivalent professional experience considered.

Who should consider this role

We welcome business analysts, systems analysts, implementation specialists, process analysts, and operations professionals who have improved how work gets done and are ready for broader responsibility. Construction experience, people management, and software development expertise are not required. The position offers direct access to leadership and a path toward broader systems ownership as skills, results, and company needs warrant.
