Work Environment This role is based in a hospital inpatient environment with high-volume specimen collection and processing across multiple facilities in the Riverside region. You will work in clinical areas such as pediatrics, ICU, and other inpatient units, using standard phlebotomy equipment and hospital laboratory systems. The position covers all three shifts, and you must be open to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift work, as well as weekends and holidays. Scheduling is influenced by union agreements, which means many available hours come from same-day call-outs; supervisors and schedulers will contact you for shifts, often starting as early as 5:00 a.m. You may work split shifts at one or multiple locations, and while shifts can occasionally be cancelled up to 2 hours before start time, you can expect to work a minimum of approximately 30 hours per week after the training period. The initial training phase lasts about 30 days to 12 months, during which you will train on 1st shift, Monday through Friday, typically from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at a single location (with the first day usually in Riverside) and work 40 hours per week. After training, you will participate in a bidding schedule for shifts across locations and times. The dress code for this position is scrubs, and the work culture emphasizes patient care, safety, compliance, and opportunities for professional growth through resources such as benefit programs and learning platforms.
