Head of Power Trading & Origination

Tesla is seeking a Head of Power Trading & Origination to stand up a lean power trading and origination function to manage and optimize Tesla’s exposure across wholesale power and environmental markets in North America. The Head of Power Trading & Origination will originate, structure, and execute revenue-generating transactions in power and environmental products, then run the operations those deals create. You will be the commercial owner: find the trade, negotiate the paper, book the risk, and make sure it settles. The successful candidate will be passionate about Tesla’s mission and demonstrate strong communication skills, analytical thinking, and exceptional attention to detail. The ability to work under pressure and solve problems confidently is essential. This position will be based in Austin, TX.

- Originate, structure, and execute physical and financial power and REC transactions across North America in support of Tesla’s energy, manufacturing, and vehicle businesses
- Negotiate and administer commercial agreements (ISDA, NAESB, EEI, and related confirms) covering pricing, volume, delivery, credit, liability, and risk allocation
- Enable trading of environmental and power products on ICE, NODAL, and other venues; stand up the internal path to trade with Legal, Treasury, Credit, Accounting, and Compliance
- Manage positions against fundamental, weather, fuel/emissions, regulatory, and operational signals; maintain discipline on limits, credit, and trade capture
- Run ongoing reporting, delivery, invoicing, and settlement for all REC and power transactions; produce weekly and monthly financial reports with Finance, Treasury, Accounting, and Audit
- Provide detailed fundamental market analysis to inform business units across the company regarding their exposure to power markets and advise on trading decisions
- Ensure all origination and trading activity complies with Tesla risk guidelines, credit policy, exchange/regulatory requirements, and the highest ethical standards

- Evidence of exceptional ability in a professional capacity, with 5-10+ years of experience in power markets
- Degree in Mathematics, Economics, Business, Finance, Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Ability to read, interpret, and synthesize complex topics such as financial statements, analyst reports, regulations, and technical documents into concise summaries for senior business leaders and external stakeholders
- Exceptional attention to detail with excellent technical skills, including proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint, and familiarity with Python or R preferred, along with experience leveraging tools for automation
- Highly collaborative and team-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills
- Comfort with ambiguity, analytical and creative first principles thinking, with the ability to solve problems with limited information
