Yoga Instructor

Location: Tower Place Fitness Center (San Bruno Fire Department) - San Bruno, CA

Pay Transparency: $22.00 per administrative hour, $70.00 - $75.00 per group fitness class hour; Minimum rates may vary based on local wage laws. Pay depends on factors including site location, specialty, certifications, work experience, and other business needs.

Schedule Requirements: This position requires a flexible weekly schedule. All yoga classes will be scheduled on weekdays between 9:15 a.m. and 10:15 a.m., based on firefighter availability and scheduling needs. The ability to maintain a flexible, week-to-week schedule is required.

Role and Responsibilities

The Yoga Instructor is responsible for helping guide students in yoga through a variety of postures, or asanas, and breathing exercises referred to as pranayama. Instructors provide hands-on direction to make sure students are performing movements properly and applying the breathing techniques. Group Fitness Instructors are expected to teach safe and effective classes for our members and are required to purpose and maintain educational standards commensurate with Active Wellness quality.

Specific Responsibilities

Essential Functions

- Deliver safe group fitness classes to the members and firefighters.

- Assist members in using safe and effective exercise form during their Workouts

- Support, teach, and encourage members to meet their fitness goals

- Administer emergency care to members and guests in need of assistance

- Work as a TEAM with all other departments (where applicable)

- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

Other Functions

- Be knowledgeable about all programs and activities offered by Active Wellness

- Promote club services and activities (where applicable)

- Perform routine maintenance of group fitness equipment

- Assist with keeping the club well stocked and clean (where applicable)

- Attend Active Wellness site meetings and trainings

- Handle injury and illness and security incident reporting

Qualifications

Qualifications and Education Requirements

- Minimum 200 hour yoga certification required

- Requires a pleasant personality and good communication skills, as instructors have to spend a good deal with other people and convey instructions clearly. Likewise, they heed a talent for motivating others and showing their own passion for physical fitness.

- AA degree

- Two (2) years Group Exercise experience preferred

- Customer service oriented ability to teach Yoga

- National Group Fitness Certification or Collegiate Degree in exercise-related science

- Must be detail oriented, organized and highly responsive with a commitment to customer service

- Strong verbal communication skills

- Basic computer skills, customer service skills, results oriented, ability to multitask, and commitment to the fitness industry

- AED/CPR/First Aid Certified

- National Personal Training Certification(s) required (see approved Certification, Licenses and Permits list) as well as modality specific certifications as required by role (if applicable)

- Proof of citizenship or legal status

Physical and Working Conditions

- Ability to take the responsibility for the health and safety of others

- Ability to stand for several hours in a same shift; ability to lift 25 lbs
