About this role
The group you’ll be a part of
Lam Research is a leading global manufacturer of capital equipment used in making leading- edge-semiconductors across the world. We primarily compete in four specific areas – deposition, etch, photoresist strip, and single wafer clean. Lam Research India team is organized into three major areas of responsibility: Hardware, Software, and Operations. We have an open position in the Hardware group. The Hardware group, designs subassemblies and subsystems for Lam’s product lines, providing innovation for the next-generation products, providing improvements in cost and reliability. In Hardware group, mechanical engineers, simulation analysts, electrical engineers, manufacturing engineers, and supplier quality engineers contribute to designing and improving Lam’s products.
The impact you’ll make
As a Mechanical Engineer at Lam, you're designing and defining cutting-edge mechanical and electro-mechanical systems. Your role involves feasibility studies, testing, and guiding teams in detailed design and fabrication. You provide the crucial design information needed to shape our technology's packaging.
What you’ll do
- Lead mechanical and electromechanical product development from concept through release and sustaining engineering.
- Translate system, reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, and cost requirements into robust design solutions.
- Develop concepts, perform trade-off studies, and create detailed 3D models, drawings, BOMs, and specifications.
- Apply engineering analysis including structural, thermal, vibration, fluid, and gas flow evaluations to optimize designs.
- Perform or support FEA and other simulations to assess performance and mitigate technical risks.
- Select appropriate materials, manufacturing processes, coatings, and surface treatments based on application requirements.
- Apply GD&T, tolerance stack-up, DFM, DFA, and Design-to-Cost principles.
- Develop and execute feasibility studies, validation plans, and engineering tests.
- Analyse characterization and validation data and drive design improvements.
- Support prototype builds, qualification, release, and engineering change implementation.
- Investigate product and field issues using structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, reliability, performance, manufacturability, and cost.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and global stakeholders.
- Present technical solutions, risks, analyses, and validation results during design reviews.
Who we’re looking for
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years , or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 3+ years of relevant product development experience.
- Experience in mechanical design, engineering analysis, product validation, and manufacturing processes.
- Working knowledge of Teamcenter (TCE) / PLM , including BOM management, engineering change management (ECR/ECO), product release, and document control.
- Experience with PLM automation, workflow development, scripting, or digital engineering process improvements.
Preferred qualifications
- Proven experience leading mechanical designs from concept through production release and validation.
- Proficiency in NX, Creo, or equivalent 3D CAD tools.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and engineering documentation.
- Experience in mechanical design, material selection, manufacturing processes, and design optimization.
- Solid understanding of structural, thermal, vibration, fluid, and gas flow fundamentals.
- Experience with DFM, DFA, Design-to-Cost, and Reliability Engineering methodologies.
- Hands-on experience developing and executing engineering validation plans and tests.
- Proficiency in PLM systems (Teamcenter/TCE or equivalent), including change management, product release, workflows, and BOM management.
- Experience in PLM automation, workflow customization, scripting, API-based integrations, or digital engineering automation tools.
- Strong technical communication, design review, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience using structured methodologies such as 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, DFMEA, and Root Cause Analysis.
