Job Summary

The Manufacturing Technology Engineering - Metrology ideal candidate is a hands‑on subject matter expert with experience in (Zeiss) CT scanning systems, CMM operation, Optical Measurement Systems, 3D Scanning as well as any traditional types of measurement disciplines that yield accurate dimensional data. They will lead AFLs metrology workflows, produce FAI documentation, and support engineering teams with precise, data‑driven insights throughout the product lifecycle. Operating at the intersection of Product Development, Quality, and Manufacturing, this role is responsible for generating highly accurate measurement data, validating complex plastic and metal components, and ensuring AFLs products meet stringent dimensional and functional requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Dimensional Inspection & Measurement Execution

- Operate and maintain Zeiss CT scanning systems, including scan setup, calibration, voxel optimization, and reconstruction workflows.
- Perform high‑accuracy dimensional inspections using CMMs (contact and non‑contact), structured‑light 3D scanners, and optical measurement systems.

First Article Inspection (FAI) & Documentation

- Lead the creation of full FAI packages, including dimensional results, ballooned drawings, capability studies, and supporting documentation.
- Ensure compliance with ISO‑9001 quality system requirements and customer‑specific documentation standards.
- Support IQ/OQ/PQ validation activities by providing precise dimensional data and statistical analysis (Cpk, GR&R).

Metrology Process Ownership

- Develop and maintain metrology work instructions, calibration schedules, and inspection best practices.
- Drive continuous improvement in measurement accuracy, repeatability, and throughput.

Cross‑Functional Engineering Support

- Partner with Design Engineering to validate part geometry, identify dimensional risks, and support DFM discussions with data‑driven insights.
- Provide detailed analysis of CT scan results to identify internal defects, voids, knit lines, warpage, and assembly interference conditions.
- Support Manufacturing Engineering and Supplier Quality with dimensional troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and corrective action validation.

Equipment & Software Expertise

- Maintain metrology equipment health, perform basic repairs, and coordinate external service when required.
- Evaluate new metrology technologies and recommend upgrades to support AFLs evolving product portfolio.

Personal Qualities

- Initiative: Self‑starter who independently drives inspection activities and resolves measurement challenges.
- Teamwork: Collaborates effectively with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of presenting complex dimensional data clearly.
- Detail‑Oriented: Demonstrates exceptional precision and rigor in measurement setup, data analysis, and documentation.
- Flexible: Able to adapt quickly to shifting priorities, urgent inspection needs, and evolving project timelines.

Required Qualifications

- Education: Bachelors degree in Metrology, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or a related technical discipline. (5-7 years of technical metrology experience will also be considered).
- Experience: Minimum 3+ years of hands‑on dimensional inspection experience (5+ preferred for Senior level).
- CMM Proficiency: Experience with tactile and optical CMM systems, including program creation and troubleshooting.
- FAI Experience: Proven ability to generate complete FAI documentation packages.
- Quality Systems: Experience working within an ISO‑9001 environment.
- Travel: Willingness to travel up to 10–15% for supplier audits, training, or equipment support.

Preferred Skills & Experience (Not Required)

- Experience with fiber optic components or telecom‑related dimensional inspection.
- Familiarity with injection‑molded part inspection, including warpage analysis and internal defect characterization.
- Experience with additional metrology platforms (e.g., PolyWorks, Geomagic, Nikon CT, Keyence systems).
- Background in statistical analysis, SPC, GR&R, or capability studies.
- Generate complete dimensional reports using Zeiss Inspect, including feature extraction, GD&T evaluation, color‑map deviation analysis, and trend studies.
