About this role
At F5, we strive to bring a better digital world to life. Our teams empower organizations across the globe to create, secure, and run applications that enhance how we experience our evolving digital world. We are passionate about cybersecurity, from protecting consumers from fraud to enabling companies to focus on innovation.
Everything we do centers around people. That means we obsess over how to make the lives of our customers, and their customers, better. And it means we prioritize a diverse F5 community where each individual can thrive.
F5 is modernizing the technology foundation that every part of the company runs on. Sales, finance, legal, support and engineering all depend on services Technology Operations delivers.
1. As a Principal Technical Program Manager for TechOps Transformation, you'll lead a multi-year program that moves a large, aging hybrid estate onto one modern architecture and one operating model.
2. In this high-visibility role, you'll drive cross-functional programs across infrastructure modernization, cloud migration, application modernization, automation and AI-enabled operations. You'll work closely with leaders across Infrastructure, Cloud Operations, Enterprise Architecture, Security, Application teams and business units. The goal is to turn transformation strategy into measurable outcomes: lower risk, faster delivery and an estate that scales.
If you've led large-scale IT transformations, are comfortable with ambiguity, and can turn architecture vision into sequenced, funded execution, this role gives you the scope and mandate to make a lasting impact.
Key Responsibilities (Impact-Focused)
- Lead an enterprise IT transformation program. Own planning and execution across several parallel workstreams: platform/infrastructure, migration and applications, and operations transformation. Keep them aligned to one target architecture, budget and business strategy.
- Turn strategy and architecture into executable roadmaps. Work with enterprise architects and engineering leaders to convert target-state architecture, guiding principles and current-state gaps into phased roadmaps. Each roadmap should have clear dependencies, resourcing, milestones and success metrics.
- Drive infrastructure and data center modernization. Coordinate end-of-life hardware refreshes, hypervisor and virtualization platform transitions, storage and network modernization, and the decommissioning of legacy environments, all while keeping disruption to the business low.
- Run application migration and portfolio rationalization at scale. Stand up and run a wave-based migration factory. Facilitate portfolio triage with app and business owners using disposition frameworks such as the 6Rs and track progress through to retirement of legacy run costs.
- Embed automation, IaC and AI into the operating model. Partner with platform teams to drive self-service, infrastructure as code, CI/CD-driven change and AI-assisted operations. Make sure modernization changes how the estate is run, not just where it runs.
- Make sure resilience and security are built into the target state. Work with Security and Resilience teams so that Zero Trust, policy as code, HA/DR/backup and audit-evidence capture are designed into the platform, not added after delivery.
- Govern, measure and prove value. Set up program governance, steering committees, decision records and exception processes. Define baselines before work starts and report on outcomes such as tech-currency, vulnerability exposure, cycle time and operational efficiency.
- Align stakeholders and drive decisions. Prepare executive-ready updates and decision packages. Facilitate trade-offs on scope, sequencing and funding across Technology, Finance and business leadership, and manage onshore, offshore and third-party partner delivery.
- Lead organizational change and adoption. Drive adoption of new platforms, standards and ways of working through enablement, embedded engineering support and clear communication. Measure success by adoption, not just delivery.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Business or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Professional Experience
- 12+ years of progressive experience in technical program management, IT program management or a similar role in a complex, global enterprise technology environment.
- Proven track record leading large, multi-year IT transformation programs with significant budget, multiple workstreams and executive visibility.
- 5+ years of hands-on program experience in at least three of the following:
- Data center and infrastructure modernization (compute, storage, network, end-of-life refresh)
- Virtualization or hypervisor platform migration and consolidation
- Hybrid and multi-cloud adoption (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI) and cloud migration
- Application portfolio rationalization and modernization (rehost, replatform, refactor, retire)
- Infrastructure automation, IaC (Terraform, Ansible), CI/CD and self-service platforms
- IT service management and CMDB (e.g., ServiceNow)
- AIOps, observability or autonomous operations
- Strong working knowledge of enterprise architecture concepts, Zero Trust security and resilience patterns (HA, DR, backup, RTO/RPO tiering).
- Experience managing global delivery models across onshore teams, offshore engineering and third-party partners.
- Strong financial and portfolio management skills, including business cases, cost baselines, stage-gated funding and benefits realization.
- Exceptional executive communication, influence without authority, and the ability to simplify complex technical trade-offs for senior leaders.
- Certifications: PMP, PgMP, SAFe, ITIL or equivalent. Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure) are preferred.
Future Vision (3–5 Years)
- Platform by default: New workloads land only on the modern platform, and legacy becomes a governed exception with named owners and exit dates.
- Self-service everything: Infrastructure goes from request to running in minutes instead of tickets, using pre-approved standard builds that carry security, compliance and resilience with them.
- Autonomous operations: AI-driven detection, triage and remediation mature from human-approved to predictive, which cuts toil and speeds up response.
- Evidence as a byproduct: Audit and compliance evidence comes automatically from how the estate runs, instead of being assembled every quarter.
- Resilience proven by test: Recovery for critical services is shown through regular drills, not just written into plans.
