Head of Engineering & Construction Underwriting

As Head of Engineering & Construction Underwriting at Allianz Commercial, you will hold full strategic and financial accountability for the Engineering & Construction line of business across Large Corporate and Mid Corporate segments - reporting directly to the Head of Underwriting Netherlands. This is a leadership role at the heart of one of the world's largest and most technically sophisticated commercial insurance operations, serving corporate clients across more than 200 countries and territories. You will define the global Engineering & Construction strategy, lead a high-performing  underwriting team, and position Allianz Commercial as the partner of choice for the world's most complex engineering and construction risks. A strong market presence in the Netherlands, with established broker and client relationships, is essential.

Some of your specific responsibilities could include:

- Own the global strategy for the Engineering & Construction line of business, with full accountability for underwriting results, profitability, and portfolio performance across Large Corporate and Mid Corporate segments
- Define and execute a market-leading Engineering & Construction proposition that delivers profitable, sustainable growth
- Steer the underwriting portfolio to consistent financial targets; present and defend portfolio performance to Finance, Board of Management, and Global Line of Business Heads
- Drive a consistent global underwriting governance framework across all Engineering & Construction sub-lines, ensuring technical excellence and disciplined risk selection
- Underwrite large, complex Engineering & Construction risks, bringing deep technical expertise to the highest-value transactions in the portfolio
- Lead and develop the Engineering & Construction team across two legal entities, fostering a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Build and maintain a commanding market presence in the Netherlands, cultivating trusted senior relationships with key brokers, clients, and market counterparts
- Represent Allianz Commercial at industry forums, client events, and broker engagements as the recognized external face of the Engineering & Construction proposition
- Manage executive-level stakeholder relationships across EMEA and Global LoB Heads, Sales & Distribution leadership, and the Allianz Benelux CUO
- Collaborate with Allianz Group entities to leverage the full breadth of the Group's capabilities and capacity in delivering integrated client solutions

What You’ll Bring to the Role

- Deep, hands-on technical expertise in Engineering & Construction with extensive experience in underwriting and/or brokerage
- A strong and established market presence in the Netherlands, with a well-developed network of senior broker and client relationships
- Ability to own and deliver P&L results, with experience steering underwriting portfolios through growth, integration, and market cycle management
- Leadership experience in commercial or specialty insurance underwriting, with the ability to develop and inspire high-performing teams
- Excellent stakeholder management skills - able to engage, influence, and align senior executives across complex, matrixed organizations including Global LoB Heads, CUO-level leadership, and Board of Management members
- Strong strategic planning and analytical capabilities - able to develop and defend robust underwriting strategies and portfolio positions at the highest organizational levels
- Strong understanding of pricing, contract drafting, reinsurance, and strategic planning, with the ability to deliver a disciplined and commercially sound underwriting strategy
- Versatility and adaptability in navigating complex, integrated organizational structures across multiple legal entities and geographies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Dutch and English
- Degree or professional designation in Insurance, Engineering, Finance, Law, or a related field; relevant industry certifications (e.g., ACII, CPCU) are a plus
- Proficiency in leveraging AI-powered tools and data analytics to enhance underwriting decision-making, portfolio monitoring, and strategic planning.

For Netherlands, the base salary range for this position is between 109.000 - 145.000 EUR (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers:

- the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role,
- the applicant's own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialization, skills and experience.

The annualized amount represents a market range and will also be determined by the location of the role. In the situation where you do not meet all the job requirements or you significantly exceed these, the offered salary may be below or above the advertised range. In addition to your base salary, we offer an attractive performance-based variable component based on location specific regulations, and you may be eligible for additional benefits.
