Position Summary

This is a high-ownership role for a backend engineer who is equally at home building system-to-system integrations and building data pipelines. Equify runs on a connected set of vendor platforms for origination, servicing, CRM, documents, and accounting, brought together in a Databricks lakehouse for reporting and analytics. You'll own both halves of what connects them: the backend integrations that move a deal from one system to the next as it happens, and the data layer that lands everything in one place for reporting, reconciliation, and audit.

On the integration side, you'll design and build the services that connect our core platforms through their APIs, such as the handoff of an approved deal from our origination platform into our servicing platform, and keep them running reliably in production. On the data side, you'll own ingestion, change data capture, and the transformation layers our reporting depends on. In a lending business a record that is almost right is wrong, so idempotent design, error handling, testing, and monitoring are part of how the work gets done: a core expectation of the role, not a nice-to-have.

This is also an AI-forward role, and we want someone who leans on modern AI coding tools by instinct to multiply what they can deliver. You'll work closely with our technology team, our risk and analytics team, and the vendors who run our core platforms. You'll report directly to the Director of Business Systems.

This is an in-office role based at Equify's offices in Fort Worth, Texas. It is not eligible for remote or hybrid work.

Key Roles / Responsibilities

- Design, build, and operate backend integrations between Equify's core platforms, including loan origination, loan servicing, Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, document, and credit-data systems.

- Build the APIs, services, and middleware that sit between vendor systems, using REST APIs, webhooks, and message queues as each problem requires.

- Engineer integrations for production: authentication, retries, idempotency, error handling, logging, and replay, so a failed transaction is caught and recovered rather than silently lost.

- Work directly with platform vendors on API capabilities, field mappings, and integration testing, and document each integration's contract and behavior.

- Own data ingestion from the same systems into the Databricks lakehouse, including change data capture and incremental loads.

- Design and maintain the transformation layers that reporting, analytics, and reconciliation depend on, with correct handling of history, deletes, and late-arriving changes.

- Define and enforce schema contracts with upstream systems, so a format change is caught at the boundary rather than discovered downstream.

- Establish the shared customer, contract, and asset keys that let records match across systems, both in the integrations and in the lakehouse.

- Build monitoring, alerting, and reconciliation checks across integrations and pipelines, so failures and mismatches surface before the business finds them.

- Replace manual re-keying and recurring manual data preparation with maintained, documented automation.

- Build the integration and data foundation for the customer-facing platforms on our roadmap.

- Use modern AI coding tools to accelerate design, implementation, testing, and documentation.

Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent is required.

- 5+ years of professional backend or data engineering experience, including ownership of production integrations or pipelines.

- Strong backend development skills in Python plus at least one of C#/.NET or TypeScript/Node.js, including building and operating API-based services.

- Hands-on experience designing, building, and consuming REST APIs, including OAuth and token-based authentication, pagination, rate limits, and versioning.

- Proven experience integrating third-party enterprise or SaaS platforms, with the reliability patterns that requires: idempotency, retries, dead-letter handling, and reconciliation.

- Experience with event-driven and asynchronous integration patterns, such as webhooks, message queues, or serverless functions.

- Hands-on experience with Databricks or a comparable lakehouse platform, including Spark and Delta Lake.

- Expert SQL, and experience with change data capture and incremental processing.

- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and the broader Microsoft ecosystem.

- CI/CD, version control, and automated testing applied to both services and data pipelines.

- Demonstrated ability to independently drive work from requirements through production.

- Comfortable working through ambiguity and making sound technical tradeoffs without heavy process or structure.

- Able to work directly with business users, analysts, and vendors: ask the right questions, and explain technical issues in business terms.

- Fluent with modern AI-assisted development, with the engineering fundamentals to direct these tools effectively and validate that what is built is correct.

We're looking for someone who is:

- Precise: treats a record that doesn't reconcile as a problem to run down, not one to explain away.

- An owner: takes an integration from first request to production and stays accountable for it after.

- Pragmatic: chooses the simplest design that will hold up, and knows the difference.

- Opinionated but collaborative: pushes back constructively without being rigid.

Preferred: experience with Azure Functions or Azure Service Bus; Salesforce or Dynamics 365 Business Central APIs and data models; Databricks Lakeflow or Delta Live Tables; and a background in equipment finance, lending, or leasing, including loan origination and servicing systems.

Working Conditions

- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

- Positions self to install equipment, including under desks.

- Moves throughout the building to access files.

- Must be able to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions.

- Must be able to complete tasks even with frequent interruptions.

- Must be able to use discretion and independent judgment as needed.

- Must be able to speak clearly on the phone and to fellow workers.
