About this role
Job Title: Demonstration Lab Manager
Location: Hauppauge, NY area (100% On-Site)
Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Position Overview
A leading, established manufacturer of machinery is seeking a hands-on Demonstration Lab Manager to oversee its active Customer Testing Center.
In this role, you will manage day-to-day laboratory operations, host visiting prospective clients, and operate full-scale and pilot equipment to run customer batch trials. Rather than routine wet-chemistry analysis, this role centers on hands-on mechanical process testing—compounding, dispersion, emulsion, and powder-liquid blending across diverse applications (food, chemical, cosmetics, pharma, adhesives).
Key Responsibilities
Lab Management & Hosting: Oversee daily testing operations, schedule customer demonstration sessions, and host visiting engineers and client decision-makers.
Process Trials & Equipment Operation: Operate industrial and compounding equipment alongside a lab assistant to formulate and execute client sample batches.
Sample Preparation & Evaluation: Inspect incoming customer raw materials, assess trial suitability, and prepare materials according to precise compounding procedures.
Documentation & Reporting: Author comprehensive post-trial test reports, log trial parameters (viscosity, torque, mix times, temperatures), and capture video documentation for client review.
Confidentiality: Maintain strict customer confidentiality regarding proprietary client formulas, processes, and trial outcomes.
Facility & Equipment Upkeep: Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot to ensure a tour-ready, compliant environment.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Biology, or a related Natural Science discipline.
Experience: Minimum 2+ years of hands-on experience in the process industries (chemical compounding, manufacturing, pilot plant, or formulations lab).
Technical & Mathematical Skills: Solid understanding of concentrations, volumes, batch math, basic algebra, and viscosity concepts; proficient in MS Office for technical reporting.
Communication: Polished verbal and written communication skills with the poise to speak comfortably with visiting technical groups, engineers, and executive clients.
Confidentiality & Safety: Proven track record of handling proprietary formulations and adhering to strict chemical/mechanical safety standards.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Physical Agility: Hands-on role requiring active movement, standing, walking, and the ability to frequently lift and handle containers/drums up to 100 lbs with the aid of shop hoists and material handling equipment.
Environment: Industrial testing facility / pilot plant setting. Involves exposure to mechanical noise, mixing equipment, and raw material fumes requiring appropriate PPE and safety gear.
Compensation / Pay Rate (Up to): $70,000.00 - $80,000.00
