About this role
Are you an accounting professional with a background in the construction industry who wants more than just a narrowly defined data-entry role? PrideStaff is currently seeking a sharp, highly motivated Junior Accountant on behalf of a thriving construction and renovation contractor in the Tampa area.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a diversified accounting professional who thrives on solving problems, investigating discrepancies, and taking true ownership of their work. You will report directly to the Senior Accountant and play a critical role in maintaining the financial health of a fast-paced business.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Oversee daily construction accounting tasks, accurately allocating costs to individual projects and maintaining detailed job-cost records.
Process Accounts Payable and Receivable, matching invoices to purchase orders, resolving billing discrepancies, and conducting bank, credit card, and vendor reconciliations.
Assist with payroll processing, verifying time records, employee classifications, and allocations.
Track and manage vital insurance documentation, including Workers' Compensation, General Liability, and subcontractor Certificates of Insurance.
Support the Senior Accountant during critical financial, sales tax, and insurance audits by gathering records, reviewing subcontractor payments, and researching inconsistencies.
Act as a financial safeguard for the company by reviewing transactions for accuracy, identifying duplicates or unusual charges, and recommending improvements to internal controls.
Communicate regularly with vendors, project managers, and internal teams to ensure projects are financially compliant and up to date.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Previous accounting experience within the construction industry is required (this can include working for general contractors, homebuilders, or specialty trades like plumbing, HVAC, or roofing).
A proactive, analytical mindset. We need a go-getter who doesn't just enter numbers, but actively asks questions, catches errors, and drives issues to resolution.
Solid understanding of job costing, AP/AR, payroll, and reconciliations.
Familiarity with managing subcontractor compliance, sales tax documentation, and audit preparation.
Strong proficiency in Excel and standard accounting software. QuickBooks Online experience is highly preferred.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines independently.
A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field is a plus, but strong, hands-on construction accounting experience is our top priority.
WHAT WE OFFER:
Competitive hourly pay ranging from $23.00 to $28.00 depending on experience.
Comprehensive health insurance options.
401(k) retirement plan with company match.
Paid time off and paid holidays.
Genuine opportunities for career advancement and professional growth within a rapidly expanding organization.
If you combine strong accounting knowledge with a sense of urgency, accuracy, and follow-through, we want to hear from you. Apply today through PrideStaff to take the next step in your career!
