About this role

Full-time | 40 hours per week
Shifts: 6am–3:30pm or 4pm–10:30pm

Looking for a kitchen job with a bit more personality?

John’s Coffee House & Tavern sits inside CODE The Court, our boutique capsule hotel just off Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. We serve our guests and visitors throughout the day, and we’re looking for a friendly, reliable Kitchen Team Member to join us.

This is a practical, hands-on role. You’ll be preparing food, keeping the kitchen organised, supporting service and making sure everything leaving the kitchen meets our standards.

You don't need to be a chef or have years of experience . If you're dependable, enjoy working as part of a team and are willing to learn, we'll give you the training you need.

What you'll be doing

No two shifts are exactly the same, but your day will include:

- Preparing ingredients and food ready for service

- Making and presenting dishes from our menu

- Following recipes, portion sizes and presentation standards

- Keeping prep areas, work surfaces and kitchen equipment clean

- Washing dishes, utensils and kitchen equipment as required

- Making sure food is labelled, dated and stored correctly

- Following food hygiene, allergen and Health & Safety procedures

- Checking use-by dates and rotating stock correctly

- Putting away food and kitchen deliveries

- Keeping fridges, freezers and food storage areas clean and organised

- Supporting the team during busy breakfast, evening and group services

- Letting the Duty Manager know about low stock, damaged equipment or maintenance issues

- Helping keep the kitchen clean, tidy and ready for the next service

- Completing the training provided by CODE

You'll work alongside the wider John’s and CODE team, so from time to time we'll all muck in to keep shared areas looking good and give our guests a great experience.

Who we're looking for

We're much more interested in your attitude and reliability than having the perfect CV.

You'll suit this role if you:

- Enjoy being busy and working as part of a team

- Are reliable and turn up ready for your shift

- Take pride in keeping things clean and organised

- Can follow recipes, instructions and food safety procedures

- Have good attention to detail

- Are happy to learn new skills

- Can stay calm and positive when service gets busy

Previous kitchen, café, restaurant, hotel or hospitality experience would be great, but it isn't essential . Training will be provided.

Your shifts

We're currently looking for someone to join us full-time, working around 40 hours per week .

Typical shifts are:

Early: 6:00am–2:30pm
Late: 4:00pm–10:30pm

You'll therefore need to be comfortable working a mixture of shifts, including weekends.

CODE The Court is a boutique capsule hotel just off Edinburgh's Royal Mile, with more than 200 beds, pod-style accommodation and social spaces within one of Edinburgh's historic buildings.

John’s Coffee House & Tavern is part of that experience, giving our guests somewhere relaxed to eat, drink and spend time during their stay.

We're proud of what we do, but we don't take ourselves too seriously. We're looking for people who will bring energy, personality and a good attitude to the team.

Send us your CV and tell us a little about yourself and why you'd like to join the team.

We'd love to hear from you.
