About this role
Work at the heart of the energy transition
Would you like to combine electrical engineering with renewable energy, hands-on testing, and international project work?
As a Power Systems Engineer – Grid Compliance & Testing at DNV, you will work directly with wind, solar and other power-generation projects, helping demonstrate that power plants can connect to the electricity grid safely, reliably and in accordance with applicable technical requirements.
This isn't a purely desk-based engineering position. You will combine on-site electrical testing and measurements, data analysis, customer interaction and project delivery, working both in the field and from your home base in Bologna.
You don't necessarily need to be a Grid Code Compliance specialist from day one. If you have a solid electrical or power engineering foundation, practical technical experience and an interest in developing your expertise in grid compliance and power quality, this could be an excellent next step.
The team
You will join DNV's Wind & Solar Technology Testing Team, a multidisciplinary international team supporting renewable and conventional power-generation projects through measurements, simulations, technical analysis and certification services.
Within the team, our Grid Code Compliance specialists help verify that power plants meet national and international grid-connection requirements. The work includes Grid Code Compliance assessments, Fault Ride Through (FRT) testing and power-quality measurements, with a strong focus on projects in Italy and across Europe.
What you'll do
Work hands-on with power-generation assets :
- Install and commission measurement systems at power plants.
- Perform Grid Code Compliance and power-quality testing .
- Monitor measurement campaigns and collect data .
- Troubleshoot sensors, measurement equipment and data-acquisition systems.
- Prepare and specify the equipment required for testing .
Turn measurements into engineering insight :
- Analyse data from measurement campaigns against relevant grid codes, international standards and technical requirements.
- Interpret results and prepare clear, professional technical reports.
- Present technical findings to customers .
Take ownership of your projects :
- Manage power-quality measurement projects, including scope, schedule and costs .
- Coordinate directly with customers throughout project delivery .
- Contribute to technical proposals, contract reviews and bids .
- Help improve our technical tools, processes and ways of working .
To be a successful candidate, you must have:
- A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or a related technical discipline.
- Experience within the energy, power, renewables, electrical engineering or a related technical environment.
- A good foundation in electrical measurements and experience with equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes or data loggers.
- Professional Italian and good written and spoken English.
- The ability to analyse technical data and communicate conclusions clearly.
- A practical, problem-solving mindset and the confidence to work independently at customer sites.
- Good organisation and time-management skills.
- Willingness to travel for approximately 60% or more of your working time.
You'll also enjoy this role if you like combining technical engineering with customer contact and taking ownership of your work.
Experience that would be an advantage:
- Grid codes or grid-connection requirements,
- Power-quality measurements,
- PowerFactory DIgSILENT or Siemens PSS,
- MATLAB, Python or IMC FAMOS,
- Technical project management,
- Previous international study or work experience.
A role for someone who enjoys being in the field.
This is a travel-intensive engineering position. You should expect to travel for at least 60% of your working time, supporting customer projects and working directly at power plants and other sites. It's particularly suited to someone who enjoys practical engineering, changing technical environments, customer interaction and seeing projects first-hand, rather than working exclusively from an office.
Security and compliance with statutory requirements in the countries in which we operate is essential for DNV. Background checks will be conducted on all final candidates as part of the offer process, in accordance with applicable country-specific laws and practices.
