About this role
Test Engineer Production Capacity Expansion Job Description This role leads the expansion of production capacity for the LP35 defibrillator product line by overseeing the assembly, characterization testing, troubleshooting, and formal validation of additional automated test stations used for production, surrogate, and troubleshooting tests. The test engineer performs hands-on engineering work in operations, production, and maintenance environments, planning and designing solutions, estimating time and cost, and clearly communicating project status and risks to key stakeholders. The position applies established engineering standards, adheres to defined quality procedures, and collaborates closely with engineers and test technicians to ensure test stations are fully validated and ready for production use. This is an individual contributor role that relies on professional judgment, requires working independently with minimal supervision, and demands a strong understanding of engineering procedures and concepts gained through a university degree or equivalent practical experience. Responsibilities
- Oversee the production capacity expansion project for the LP35 defibrillator product line, focusing on assembly, characterization testing, troubleshooting, and formal validation of additional test stations.
- Support the expansion of production capacity by helping to procure, build, and bring new automated test stations online for production, surrogate, and troubleshooting use.
- Perform characterization testing on test stations and related equipment, analyzing performance and identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Troubleshoot hardware and test equipment issues, diagnosing root causes and implementing effective corrective actions.
- Work closely with existing test engineers and test technicians to integrate new test stations into the current production and test environment.
- Develop and execute installation qualification (IQ) and performance qualification (PQ) validation activities for new and modified test stations.
- Perform replicate validation runs to verify consistency, reliability, and compliance of test stations with defined requirements.
- Write clear and comprehensive validation plans, protocols, and reports that document the scope, methods, and outcomes of validation activities.
- Document test and validation results thoroughly and ensure that test stations meet all requirements before release for production use.
- Apply engineering standards and follow established quality procedures throughout all phases of test station development, validation, and support.
- Plan and design engineering solutions for production and test environments, including estimating time and cost for assigned tasks and projects.
- Communicate project status, issues, and risks in a timely and transparent manner to key stakeholders and cross-functional partners.
- Coordinate activities with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and test functions to ensure alignment, resolve issues, and maintain project momentum.
- Own assigned work independently, using professional judgment and previous experience to make sound decisions with minimal supervision.
- Ensure that all work aligns with established procedures and concepts within the engineering discipline and supports reliable, scalable production operations.
Essential Skills
- Bachelors degree in engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant practical experience.
- Hands-on experience working with production or manufacturing test equipment in an operations or production environment.
- Experience with validation and qualification activities, including planning and executing structured test and verification work.
- Ability to develop, author, and maintain technical documentation such as validation protocols, test plans, and formal reports.
- Strong hands-on troubleshooting skills, including hardware troubleshooting, with the ability to independently diagnose and resolve issues.
- Proven ability to independently drive work, manage tasks with minimal supervision, and use professional judgment to make decisions.
- Solid understanding and practical application of engineering procedures, standards, and concepts within a production or test setting.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with cross-functional teams, including engineering, manufacturing, quality, and test personnel.
- Experience applying and adhering to formal quality procedures in an engineering or production environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with installation qualification (IQ), operational qualification (OQ), and performance qualification (PQ) activities.
- Background in automated test stations, including configuration, deployment, and support in a production environment.
- Experience working with medical device products or within a regulated medical device environment.
- Extensive practical knowledge gained through hands-on experience in operations, production, or maintenance environments, even in lieu of a formal degree.
- Ability to estimate time and cost for engineering tasks and projects and to manage work within defined timelines.
- Comfort working as an individual contributor while collaborating effectively with engineers, technicians, and cross-functional stakeholders.
Work Environment The role operates primarily in production, operations, and test environments that support the LP35 defibrillator product line. You will work directly with automated test stations, production test equipment, and related hardware, performing hands-on assembly, characterization testing, troubleshooting, and validation activities. The position involves close collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and test teams, and requires frequent interaction with test engineers and test technicians on the production floor and in lab settings. Work is largely independent, with minimal day-to-day supervision, and relies on adherence to established engineering standards and formal quality procedures. The environment emphasizes accuracy, documentation, and compliance, with a strong focus on ensuring test stations are robust, reliable, and ready for sustained production use.T
