About this role

Standard Job Description

Who We Are

At Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems (RMS), we turn bold ideas into mission-critical capabilities for those who protect our nation. Our Owego team is pioneering a new era of collaborative autonomy by developing Group 1 / 2 uncrewed aircraft that launch from, operate alongside, and team with crewed platforms.

This is an opportunity to help define a capability from the ground up, take it from the lab to the flight line, and see your work perform in the real world. We are looking for hungry, smart, and enthusiastic engineers who are excited to work on cutting-edge, tangible products in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. If you are ready to shape the future of autonomous teaming and deliver technology that takes flight, join us.

What We’re Doing

We are seeking a Systems Engineer Sr to join our team in Owego, NY, supporting the Launched Effects Family of Systems (LE FoS). You will play a key role in transforming mission and customer needs into technical solutions by developing requirements, defining software and hardware interfaces, supporting verification activities, and contributing to system checkout.

This role supports the development of collaborative-autonomy-enabled small UAS applications, including Group 1 / 2 UAV development and airborne launch operations. You will work across engineering disciplines to help define, integrate, verify, and mature mission-critical capabilities from initial concept through system demonstration.

The Work

You will support the development of system requirements for the LE FoS. You will collaborate across engineering disciplines to define solutions, support verification and testing activities, and help the team meet its technical performance, schedule, and cost commitments. Your work will directly contribute to advancing autonomous teaming and collaborative autonomy across Group 1 / 2 UAV development and airborne launch missions.

Key Responsibilities

* Perform systems engineering activities on the LE FoS program, with a focus on collaborative autonomy and autonomous teaming for Group 1 / 2 UAV integration.
* Develop system, software, and subsystem requirements for the emerging domain of launched effects and airborne UAV operations.
* Define external and internal interfaces
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams on software and hardware interfaces, optimizing autonomous teaming between crewed and uncrewed platforms.
* Support documentation and requirements verification.

Please Note

* Role is based in Owego, NY.
* U.S. citizenship is required.
* Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD government security clearance at the Secret level. This position is located at a facility that requires special access.

Who You Are

You are a results-driven, mid-career systems engineering professional who enjoys turning complex mission needs into clear, executable technical solutions. You are comfortable working across disciplines, navigating requirements and interfaces, and collaborating with software, hardware, integration, test, and customer teams.

You are energized by challenging problems, fast-moving programs, and the opportunity to see your work become a real capability. You bring experience with embedded systems and collaborative autonomy, an understanding of system integration and avionics lifecycle processes, and a passion for mission success. Whether you are defining requirements, resolving an interface issue, or supporting a flight demonstration, you take ownership, communicate clearly, and remain focused on delivering reliable, high-quality systems.

Basic Qualifications

* Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, systems engineering, computer engineering, or an equivalent STEM field with five years of related professional experience, or three or more years of related experience with a related master’s degree.
* Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
* Experience developing software requirements and working collaboratively with software engineers in the design, development, and test of software.
* Experience supporting the integration and test of hardware and software systems.
* Must be a U.S. citizen; this position will require a DoD government security clearance at the Secret level.

Desired Skills

* Knowledge of system design, requirements definition, and documentation.
* Knowledge of system verification and test documentation and execution.
* Experience working on cross-functional teams, including Hardware, Software, and Integration and Test.
* Programming skills in languages such as C, C++, or Python.
* Experience with real-time operating systems.
* Experience building strong customer relationships.
* Current active Secret security clearance.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently on assigned work.
